Just out of curiosity, approximately how many photos have been deleted from the database?

Well, the most recent photo uploaded to RP is

http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=114685

And there are 99,405 photos in the database, so:

114685
-99405
15280

So 15280 photos have been deleted.

I know a photographer was ejected awhile back who had nearly 1,000 shots. There are many dupes which get removed.

That's an awfully low number of rejects for nearly 100K photos.

Judging by the viewreject numbers, 152,792 photos have been rejected from RP.

I wonder what the first reject was...

That won't tell you much, as the way the system used to work is different to how it is now. For the first six months or so, any rejected photo left a "gap" in the database in ID numbers. Since then, however, photos are assigned a new ID when accepted, so those gaps no longer occur. Still, those gaps from the first six months account for most of that 15,280 number.

I would estimate maybe 2,000 photos have been deleted from the database since the site started. Probably 10 photographers have asked us to remove their images due to disagreements with the screeners, and while almost every one of them has told me in that e-mail that the loss of their photos would be the end of RP.net, we seem to still be going strong.

Interesting..... and completely conceited. Who needs that type of ego here anyway, eh?
