Default Canon 5D Mark III - now on sale for 2899!

Just noticed - could be a cyberMonday sale only.

B&H and Amazon - with free goodies - but not Adorama oddly.

Canon 5D Mark III new $2,899.00

It's amazing all the things we can't afford and the things we feel we can not afford to live without.

Still on sale - unadvertised:

Please note the lower price for the Canon EOS 5D Mark III DSLR Camera (Body Only) is $2,899.00

This Item has a Minimum Advertised Price (MAP) restriction set by the Manufacturer / Distributor that limits how we can display our selling price. The price above is our actual selling price.

I feel that way every time I'm inside someone's million dollar house.

I paid $2300 for my 5D MK1 body back in 2008, and now it sits on a shelf collecting dust.

I paid $650 for my used 5d in 2009, it still takes excellent photos.

Anyone here actually have the 5d3? What is focus like? That's my chief complaint about the 5d, only center point is worth a shit. That's why I never bothered with the 5d2, it's the exact same focus system.

I'm too cheap to have something that cost $2k when i bought it 5 years ago sitting on a shelf. That keeps me from spending the big bucks on this stuff.

It pretty much became obsolete to me. My 60D does just as well, if not better, and has a faster frame rate. Plus, there are a hundred other things I'd rather spend $300-500 on instead of getting the 5D repaired. The sensor needs to be replaced and the screen is janky and also needs to be replaced. I rode that thing hard and got my money's worth as far as I'm concerned.

It's the cost of owning the latest technology, I suppose. Remember those expensive computers we bought before the cost of memory dropped dramatically? I really see this being no different. I'll use it again someday in a limited capacity, but as far as I'm concerned, it's obsolete with today's technology.

No you can't, you live in MI.

BTW - I have a couple of laptops that were more than the 5D when I bought them and they are essentially bricks now.

You have my permission to continue to think this way.

The 40D has been berry, berry good to me. So good I just bought Mitch's old one!

I have wanted a matched pair of cameras so I can have wide and tight cameras of equal quality.

I am fortunate to have excellent lenses now so I get everything the 40D 10MP sensor can give me. (Particularly since the 40D is APS-C I get the sweet spot performance of my two L grade, full frame lenses.)

BTW, it's cool having the camera Mitch used to make some of his classic shots.

But, yes I would gladly be in the 5D Mk III camp as well.

Ok.

But that is all contingent on the continued remittances from Charles.

Perhaps you should speak directly to him.
