Default Cropping and exposure

I got this photo rejected for bad cropping. Can someone advise me on what would be a better cropping? I don't think cropping more would be right: the signal and barrier of the railroad crossing is part of my composition. I could crop less upward, to include the top of the catenary holding tower; downward, but there would only be more shadows; and to the left, to include more trees.

I got another photo rejected for low exposure. I thought that this being a sunset photo, darkness in the station hall is part of the atmosphere, but, I could apply gamma correction and then some contrast. Problem is, that way noise is enhanced. Do you think there is a way to 'save' this picture?

(Oh, and I am a newbie on RailPictures as well as these forums, please bear with me )

Shot one you have to much on the right of the tower and some off the top too.
Shot two Start with a lighter one ( reshoot)? to start with as the white is a light gray. Its not all that far off tho.
