Default Howard Stern

Admit, I have you confused now, don't I? Unless, you've already heard this.....

Anyways, without further ado, here is Howard Stern making fun of foamers. What he doesn't realize is that he's making fun of a video that was a parody of the "RIO GRANDAY" dude. Then he goes off on another typical Howard Stern tangent and eventually comes back to foamers.

Original Parody video:

Original "RIO GRANDAY" video that we've all seen.

Good times....

It's fine for them to do so, I welcome it in fact, but what I do have a problem with is that the practitioners of the more "arty" shots, I have found, tend to look down their nose's at others who are shooting more "mundane" shots.
Railroad photography is what you make of it, but one way is not "better" than another, IMHO. Unless you have a pole right thought the nose of the engine! -SG

Howard Stern has good reason to make fun of foamers. People who act like that deserve all the shame and public ridicule they can get.

One problem I have with the "parody" is that it is really more of a remake. There is nothing in it to suggest parody, in my view.

The Rio Grande kid and the parody/remake I have no problem with. I just think it'sfunny that someone expects Howard Stern toreally care about the story behind either video. He's there for laughs and ratings. He's not there to seriously discuss these things.

The parody video pretty much fits the definition of "parody." Not sure what you're missing.

par·o·dy
noun \ˈper-ə-dē, ˈpa-rə-\

: a piece of writing, music, etc., that imitates the style of someone or something else in an amusing way

: a bad or unfair example of something
That fits the parody video to a T.

The guy in the parody video is mocking the original foamer's style in an amusing way. One could also say it's bad and unfair, since the foamer in the original video has some mental challenges.

I didn't find it particularly amusing. Seemed like pretty much just a copy of the basic theme. Nothing witty, for example. So for me it fails on the "in an amusing way" clause of the definition.

Fair enough. But the whole point of his video was a parody of the original...albeit a badly done parody.

CNN called it a "gag," a "remake" AND a "parody."

I found the CNN story more amusing than all 3 of them. Maybe it was the fact that they actually went through all the trouble to make a story out of this.

CNN needs to focus on some real stories.

Has a huge following.

I listened to him briefly when he was on in our market in the late 90's, but moved on, and then he went to satellite radio, which I dont have anyway.

Argument: Charles Coughlin had considerably larger audiences, back in the 1930s (when people had both fewer distractions available to them in the evenings and fewer choices on radio - on the other hand the population of the US was much lower). Wiki says he had 30 million listeners vs. Stern's 20 million.

No, I was not alive at the time.

But really, who cares what the minstrel says?

You don't have to dress like a circus clown to be one.

Well, he was making fun of foamers. Maybe TROY has descended upon us in the form of a radio host?

I just realized what bugs me the most. When they say, "...and it's not even a great train."....or something like that. Like they would know what a great train is.

I was once a radio host... no lie. For 3 years in the middle of the night (11-2, 2-5) on a low power FM Jazz station in the mid 90's. Was a fun gig.
