Default buffer car

I thought this was different, I saw it the other day, I knew they had buffer cars on the oil trains, but I never knew they had cars just dedicated to doing that.
not to mention no graffiti, there was a few in the data base but not any with a full view that I saw, but anyway...

Yup, extremely common. BNSF has a fleet of them.

SVC is short for service.

I believe "SVC" is short for "service." ie the car is for "Buffer Service Only," and nothing else.

Sorry they didn't like it - not rail related, obviously...

EDIT: Oops, Lloyd beat me to it...

Or grab a pic of the incredibly elusive heritage buffer car.

A random buffer can for all of the ethanol trains may be one thing, but get a shot of a "spacer" car on the famed (now defunct) Extension Cord Line and you get more then 6,000 views!

It was the switchstand that led to all the views.

They have special purpose cars because they fill them with sand. Bad idea to put an empty car between 3 engines and 70 oil loads.

Most BNSF buffer cars are empty. The govt only requires at least one non-hazardous car between the power and the hazmats. Doesn't matter if they are loaded or not. They are there primarily to reduce the likely hood of the locomotive(s) being an ignition source. The cars are also structurally beefed up to handle the trailing weight and tractive effort.

Please don't give them ideas... they're already clutching at straws for an event next year... and you wouldn't believe some of the ideas that have been thrown around!

Best one I've heard yet was a gathering of cabooses... Good Grief... talk about corny...

Yeah, that doesn't sound too exciting.

My idea? A gathering of all operable steam locomotives. Are the logistics of that crazy? Yeah. Would that be awesome? Heck yeah. Especially if it was at the debut of the 611 under steam.

Yea, or spoiled feed that smells like decaying corpses. Not fun having to ride that in 90 degree heat....
