Default Does the new Rebel....

Does the Rebel XTi take the same memory cards as the 300D, the original Rebel? I know they take different batteries. Considering how inexpensive the new Rebels are compared to the 40Ds (and getting a 40D means waiting to tax season and not getting to take a trip to Memphis next Spring) I may stick with a Rebel.

Anything else different in compoarision to the old Rebel?

I have a 400D and 300D. They both use CF cards.

Opinions differ!

I say, given the following:
300D: $300 used
350D: $430
400D: $570
20D: under $600 used
30D: $800 used
40D: $1300
10-22 lens: $640 (under $600 used)
70-200 f/4 non-IS: $550 (under $500 used)

the 40D is poor value. Glass is good value. For $1300 total there is no way that 40D, super nice as it is, beats the 400D or 20D plus a super lens, especially outside of one's current focal range, in terms of getting shots.

Personally, as I can't stand the tiny size of the 350D/400D, I think the 20D used is amazing value. I got one a year ago to replace my 300D; today I would do exactly the same. I can see someone with smaller hands choosing the 400D.

Hell, anything can feel small in your hands. Anything smaller than a D2X with 70-200mm f2.8 has always felt awkward and unsteady to me. But try biking with that.

I think just about every camera nowadays uses CF, save for a small amount of P&S's and some older Nikon DSLR's.

Problem solved! My awesome wife who had listened to several of my bitch and moan sessions, seen the evidence and understood ordered me a new Rebel XTi that will be shipped within 3 to 5 business days. With Thanksgiving coming, I'm not getting my hopes up that it will be here before the following Monday.

Which will be great since I have a week off starting December 1st and if everything works out, will be getting a behind the scenes look at some area railroad ops.

Life is sweet again, but ow I won't be able to go to sleep tonight.

Just don't get the tracking number! You'll spend the rest of your time clicking refresh on the UPS page (I speak from personal experience!)

I did this one time while waiting on some cleaning supplies for my camera, pretty frustrating. Sent from NJ down to Raleigh NC, over to Greensboro, then up to VA, then to Philidelphia, back to NJ, up to NY, back to Greensboro NC, then finally to my area, then my house, an overnight delivery took over a week!!!

Kind of taught me the lesson of "a watched pot never boils", but instead "a tracked delivery never comes"

Estimated shipping date is 11/20.
Estimated arrival date is 11/23 to 11/27

I'm guessing it will be here next Monday, 11/26. I have a week and two days off starting 11/28.
