Default Heads Up WM Diehards!!!

http://www.railpictures.net/showphot... Kane Railroad

Knox and Kane GP9 #39 is slated to be moved by rail to the George's Creek Railway for another fine restoration by their staff there. I have met with and emailed with Gerald Altizer, and he told me that they are going to restore her back into her original WM Circus livery.

KKRR #39 is former WM #39 (Circus livery). It moved through the Chessie take over, and was sold to KKRR owner Sloan Cornell in Chessie livery as #6414. After that, it was moved to Cornell owned Gettysburg RR as #14, and then came back to the Knox and Kane and recieved her birth number of 39.

On March 18th, 2008, #39 was involved in an engine house arson fire in Kane. Also damaged were 2-8-0 Baldwin #38 (now owned by the Everett Railroad, and currently at the Western Maryland Scenic shops for restoration), Tang Shan Locomotive Works Mikado 2-8-2 #58 (now owned by the Valley RR in Essex, CT.), and an 1890's D&H dining car that was scrapped after the Liquidation auction in October. Post arson photos of all 4 pieces can be found in the link above, as well photos of #39 grinding up the former B&O Northern Sub pulling passenger and freight trains.

Supposedly, #39 is to be moved tomorrow (6/29) afternoon by a Buffalo and Pittsburgh crew out of Johnsburg. She will be ferried to Jburg. After that, I have not heard any movement details, but I would suspect that it will be picked up in Johnsonburg Tues., by the southbound B&P JBRI (Jburg-Riker), and end up in New Castle either overnight Tues. or Wed. night. to be interchanged with CSX to go to Maryland.

I will post any other details. Please get out there and shoot this move. My work schedule will not allow me to.

I also invite you to join our Knox and Kane Yahoo group, and please share your photos with us:

I ended up chasing Knox and Kane #39 today. I called my boss, and she covered for me until I got back in town. I started the day off in Johnsonburg, to chase the light power to Kane. While waiting for the crew to taxi from Warren, I caught the RIJB coming into town for the daily swap.

The B&P ‘JBKA’ crew departed Jburg at approx. 1500 with OLS G&W #45 in the lead, followed by B&P 886. I made a few stops along the way, pics and video shared in the next few days. Once at the interchange, the B&P split 45 and 886 apart. 45 pulled ahead to clear the interchange, and reverse the switch. I observed on my radio that the B&P crew was to stop on the frog, and Gerald Altizer and his staff would push #39 down to B&P 45 with a backhoe. Once coupled and cleared, 45 pulled #39 from her home for good. Once clear the switch, it was re-aligned normal, and 45 reversed #39 to couple onto 886. Since 886 was going to be the leader east to Jburg, the crew changed ends. 45 was disconnected from 39 and 886, and a final air test was done. All three units recoupled, and the trio was on their way to Jburg.

As a note, #39 had rode the Allegheny & Eastern rails before. When Sloan Cornell sold his Johnsonburg, Kane, Warren and Irvine Railroad to the then Allegheny Railroad, he retained trackage rights from Kane to Jburg so he could interchange with at the time CSX. The interchange in Mt. Jewett was not in service at this time, and the Knox and Kane line was full of stored cars for quite a distance toward Kane. I believe that the trackage rights ended in July of 1990, and I have a copy of a staged 3-way meet in Jburg yard with #39, and Allegheny unit, and a B&P unit on the final day of trackage rights.

During my chase today, I heard from a very reliable source that Knox and Kane #39 will be on tomorrow’s (6/30) Jburg-Riker train if all goes as planned. They also stated that she will be in New Castle for interchange overnight tomorrow night into Wednesday morning, via BTRI pick up when the JBRI arrives, and then #39 will be on the BTNC when the BTRI returns to Butler.

Note: The northbound RIJB got into Jburg at 1315, and I caught up to the JBRI in Dubois at 1900hrs on my way home. I did not see it, but I’m 90% sure that I heard the DB-2 say something about getting out when the southbound leaves. That would make from Dubois, the whole way to New Castle a night chase.

Get out there and get your photos guys. #39 will never see iron on the Knox and Kane ROW again.

Once at CSX, no one knows any details as of yet.

Default Videos of the move!!!

B&P JBKA chase…Goodbye Knox and Kane #39

I started the day off calling off from work. Who better to cover for me than
the Director herself. I headed off to Johnsonburg to make a day of it chasing
both ways. I'm familiar with the area between Jburg and Kane, but I have never
railfanned it to know where photo ops were located. I had some time, so I
scouted the line the whole way to Kane and back. Just as I was coming back into
Jburg, I heard the northbound RIJB getting permission past the stop indication
at Harris to get into the yard. I got to the Grant St. crossing with a few
seconds to spare. Still working on photos, will post later.

In the meantime, here are some videos to hold you over.

Here is the light power WB at Tambine:

WB under the Knox and Kane overpass:

At Kane East. GNWR 45 cutting away from BPRR 886 to pull past the switch. Knox
and Kane #39 will be sandwiched in the middle for the trip back east to
Johnsonburg.

#39 is shoved down the hill to the interchange by one of Gerald Altizer's
associates with a backhoe.

45 couples onto #39 to pull her past the points so the switch can be re-aligned
normal and then shoved back to 886.

45 pulls 39 past the points. Sorry for the whoopsy. I thought that I had my
camera paused.

#39 is shoved back to the awaiting 886:

I hope that you enjoy the videos, as I enjoyed documenting this chapter of the
Knox and Kane history and #39's future.

Word on the street is that the arson invilved Knox and Kane #39 will most likely be on the CSX Q352 sometime Weds. out of New Castle. If any of you Pittsburgh/Sandpatch/Cumberland guys snag any shots of her in transit, I ask that you join our knoxandkanerr Yahoo group or contact me off list to arrange sharing your photos with the group if you are not interested in joining.

Thanks,

Kevin

No wonder I haven't seen any other photos yet:

After sitting since June 30th on the interchange track in New Castle, and according to the CSX "excuse du joir", the locomotive will be picked up by today's Q352 for delivery to Maryland. With any kind of luck, it will be back home on Western Maryland rails by Sunday.
Today above is today, Friday 7/10.
