Default An european in California: what to see?

Hi everyone!
I'm from Milano, Italy and in the end of August i'll enjoy two weeks on holidays: some in Tampa, some in Downey, LA. What can i see or where can i go to take some nice pictures? I already know about trolley operation in Tampa with rebuilt Birney cars (with trucks coming from my beloved Peter Witts) and i know about Orange Empire Museum. But talking about real trains? Is there something interesting about freigth in Tampa? And in north-west LA? On some maps i saw an intricate network of tracks north of Downey LA area: can i find something interesting there or it's only forgotte and closed industrial links???

Thanks to everyone who answer me!

Downey is close to Fullerton where you can see Metrolink passenger and BNSF freight trains. Look at the following site and select the red line.

Here are two recent photographs from the station area

Just a few short miles from Downwy east up Lakewood Blvd is one of two lines into Los Angeles, the old GM plant spur is still there and there are numerous Amtrak and Metrolink trains that run the route along with some frieght.
In Norwalk one of the transit lines terminate at the station there(Green or red can't remember). Going Through Downy north/south is the older SP line that runs from LA to Santa Ana, now owned by UP it's west of Firestone Blvd. Following it south you should run into the yard engines working out of La mirada and Buena Park. Good Hunting ..Ken
