Default I shot Neptune, but at the wrong time of day

No complaints about the rejection, just sharing. Can't recall seeing any slugs paired with a genset before.

I saw shots of this unit from last week in Southern Illinois. This unit was with gensets made for Bunge. Unit 8001 I believe. Anyway NRE is doing some interesting work making switchers etc.

What I mean is that engine is hideous. I won't shoot something that ugly- the photo will look bad regardless of scenery.

Thanks for sharing.
I spent a couple of nightshifts as a switchman at Neptune Terminals 14 years ago. Unloading potash cars while on a roll. I was grateful not to be in the pit.
I'm sure the crews there will appreciate the new power. Usually pulling 35 cars at a time with a grade to contend with.

Bummer. Just leaves more opportunities for the rest of us.

Brian, you'll come across the photos 40 years down the road and be glad you took it. That engine is a first of it's kind, especially with the teal paint. Who knows what the future hold for this engine, let alone, these types of engine.

It is quite ugly but the BL2 was considered ugly in its hey-day but I kind of like the looks of it now.

Um... this is a competition?

On the other hand, it is ugly.

So is everything being built now.

My dad stopped taking pictures for decades because of how ugly Erie Builts and Centipedes were though.

Well you know my only goal in life is to take pictures which satisfy Mike B. Sorry to disappoint with this one.

The color sucks but not all that bad, remember the EMD E 7 isn't all that good looking, we just are uses to it. E 6 now that one looked good.

Jim;

Shoot all the high GPs you can find. They won't be around forever. I chase high nose NS GPs for that very reason. As for this engine, I stopped caring what the engines looked like and kept shooting. This ain't no dog and pony show, you know. As for the shot in particular, a wider shot from further back may have got in for the news worthiness of it.

Besides, Joe... if you read Jim's other threads, he doesn't actually know what a high-nosed GEEP is... so pay no mind...

I think the trolling/fishing smiley in Jim's post could also be used to sum up that question...

I actually happen to agree with a lot of the points that Mike brings up; however, he certainly has a way of wording things that I could see why many people on here are upset.

I'm not acting like I'm better than anyone else, I'm just poking fun at an ugly engine. Maybe I should start using smilies more often even if I don't like them.

A friend, who is a far more accomplished rivet counter than I am, tells me that this body type is actually the new 3GS21B standard body type, which is simplified to produce. Railroads can specify the older style if they prefer it, but the standard will be this.

(This is all heresay, mind you... but the friend who told me this is generally a fairly accurate source.)

No. Smilies won't do it. Not posting, will.
