Default Most interesting catches of 2008

Since we have the Top 10 thread going which shows your favorite work of 2008, I thought we should have one showing the best consists you've seen this year. Obviously what is rare here in Ohio may not be rare out west or in Canada and vise versa, so show your favorite consists that you caught. It doesn't have to be a magazine cover type photo since all we are really looking at is the consist (because mine certainly aren't. I just wanted to be sure to see the engines, normally the opposite of how I try to shoot).

I figure we'll do the Top 3...

When I first heard about a BCOL unit in the Ohio area the first thing that came to mind was "I've never actually seen one or heard of one being in the area" and a search on RP showed that no one has ever seen one in Ohio, so this makes the list easily:

While headed home from an Illinois trip our group decided to stop in Wellsboro, IN and try and catch some CN action. CN didn't disappoint and this came and stopped next to us for a finale:

And this was probably the obvious number one choice for me. While I think catching 2 matched bluebonnets anywhere nowadays is rare, catching them on an NS freight in the middle of Ohio was probably rarer. Even making it sweet was the B40-8 second out was one of only two remaining that hadn't been repainted.

As I said, the photos don't have to be anything special.

Paul, that BC Rail unit should be headed west through Ohio again tomorrow on Q381.

All three shots were purely coincidental - a result of going out and waiting to see what happens

I'm feeling a little slutty so I'll participate. Out of the photos I have on RP, these are some of the better consists of 2008. I'm a fan of almost anything that is matched but a matched consist of SD50Fs and original SOO GP40s is quite nice.

Also caught a SOO SD60 leading a rail train on the BNSF in some of the best light I've ever shot in. Catching SOO SD60s will only become harder in 2009.

None of these shots were coincidental - all were obtained with prior knowledge.

Adding the Santa Fe unit made this an interesting assortment:

Usually this sort of thing would have been intentional for me, but this was pure luck as I didn't know it was coming (NS cars to the DNC):

Of course there were the "undecorated" IAIS units at Bellevue:

Most of the other stuff I thought was "neat" or "unusual" was more a matter of common foreign power in various locations around Toledo - so not so interesting otherwise...

Regards,
Michael

Here would be my top 3.

Frist was an all CR blue SD60I lashup on an empty hopper train on Labor Day

2nd would be the same bluebonnet lashup that Paul caught.

And third would be the Island Ave. local, which this day, included NS 100, and 101.

Nothing unusual for me except for some BNSF units, and the NS Research train with NS 34.

These three stood out to me:

Even though it was only working the yard second out, well, it's an SD9. Reason enough.

I can count on one hand the number of times I've seen KCS units in North Dakota (and that hand could be missing a few fingers), so it was quite the surprise to catch a brand new KCS Southern Belle ACe on the point of one of our daily manifests. Pure class.

Not as drool-inspiring as when they wore new paint, but catching a solid Warbonnet lashup in 2008 was pretty neat.

...with a fudged up nose, ewww. No thanks.

Also, I can't consider a road consist classy if it has a switcher 2nd out. A mixed up consist is just that; mixed up.
