Default Bad cropping, please help!?

Ok, I submitted this and it got rejected due to bad cropping. Someone please explain why the cropping on this photo sucks?

The cropping is too tight on all sides. Also boost of saturation would not hurt either.

As an alternative to recropping this one, try the previous frame, if you have one. That nose is a bit in-your-face.

Or... the correct answer, lol:

Image is centered in the frame top to bottom.

You might think with the repetition of this issue, admin would come up with an additional reject reason - "Poor crop: Centered".

Add some sky, if you can.

Respectfully, Mitch, I'm not sure if the train being centered vertically in the frame is quite the big deal you're making it out to be... these, for example, are just from yesterday:

(Please note that I'm not trying to open up yet another debate on inconsistency issues - it just seems to me that "the train is centered in the frame" gets tossed around the forums a lot as a reason for rejection, while many such shots do make it into the database. Of course, there are some situations where I feel it does apply, but I don't consider it to be a universal guideline.)

While I like the picture and would have accepted it, they're probably going to hit you with a cloudy rejection next.

Needs contrast and saturation. Looks very bland.

ARE YOU CRAZY!?!?! Two or three examples would have sufficed. What are you trying to do, put one or more screeners in the hospital!?!?!?

Someone please warn admin not to look at this thread!

Cloudy day pics are ALWAYS accepted 50% of the time:

In regards to centered images and poor crop - that's the crop monster's standard diet. I'll bet a good percent of those shots shown above could easily be deemed unacceptable by one or more screeners. And most would look better following the RULE of thirds - the rule of RP. Not all, but most. As for consistency - I'd love to link 3 very unlevel shots RP accepted, including one from today but I don't want to single me out, lol. Plus, I've already corrected them and resubmitted.

Mitch, I just read your comment on that picture. I don't which is funnier - that you wrote it, or that Chris accepted it.....I'm still laughing...

I suppose I could always go back and reshoot it - if I had access to a time machine.

Getting back to my photo, here is the unedited version. I cropped out the conductor because the fluorescent looked too modern and I don't think he wants to be online.

.

Well that's a lot nicer - I don't think you can actually make out the employee and I
assume it's not a big deal as it appears he's doing nothing in violation.

I'd still suggest cropping so that the engine is not so centered. Not sure what's going on today -
it's a bit Twilight Zone like with so many centered images being accepted. I think your pic
must have flipped everything out of whack after being rejected for "poor crop".

Good luck - very cool catch!

/Mitch

Glad to see you have so much more to work with. Don't touch left and top, crop the crewman on the right if you feel you must, and crop some on the bottom.

Someone needs to work on his wide angle distortion correction techniques.

Come on, Mitch, you need to keep up with the current popular memes.
