Instead of shouting at the internet, why doesn't he start a competing site to teach RP.net a lesson? Surely the 10 or less disaffected members of his yahoo site will be contributing gold.

Most people can move on... but then again, most people mature past five

Been rat-free for two months and I certainly don't miss that piece of human trash's ramblings.

However, I wouldn't mind seeing the meltdown he's going to have with the exif data on the next batch of shots I'm going to be submitting.

If you read the text there, they're calling the image out for having high sun, etc.

Wonder if he got permission to use that photo on the page......

Gotta love someone who hates the site so much, he will link to shots which he thinks by his standards shouldnt be on the site.

If you read through some of his post, it seems like he not only literally opens every RP picture to examine it for problems, but also checks every EXIF data. So ironically he is almost certainly the single largest source of RP views.

You guys obviously don't understand that he's doing this for his seven or eight loyal fans. It's, like, a public service or something.

What an asshole.
Damn, just as he was dying out, you had to go and bring him up, Kevin. As less and less people paid attention to his rants, his postings had fallen off to only a few a week, down from like 2-3 posts a day.

The nice thing is he can only put links, so anyone who checks out your "piece of crap" photo gives you a view as well.

You can't let what he says about your photos get to you. Don't bother e-mailing him either, it just gives him more to gloat about on the site.

Just enjoy the group for the comedy he provides, such as his discovery of a new curse word every two weeks or so. For example, he's now started calling bad photographers "clusterf**ks," even though that term is used to describe a messed up situation, not a person.

And now, since CK didn't want Dan the Man discussed on the boards anymore, I believe the lock icon will be appearing soon.

Has anybody met this guy in real life? Is he like a high-functioning autistic or Asperger's or something?

I've not seen anyone quite that obsessive and malignant in a very long time.

It's fine for them to do so, I welcome it in fact, but what I do have a problem with is that the practitioners of the more "arty" shots, I have found, tend to look down their nose's at others who are shooting more "mundane" shots.
Railroad photography is what you make of it, but one way is not "better" than another, IMHO. Unless you have a pole right thought the nose of the engine! -SG

That group has been around for a few months now. Gotta love how Dan hates RP so much, yet he seems to take the time to scrutinize every photo posted there. I sent him an email saying basically the same thing a couple months ago and the best he could respond with was a whiny "can RP contributors stop emailing me?" message on his group. Oh well, I guess he has to find something to do when he's not stocking shelves...

Allegedly he doesn't act like that much of a jerk in real life, but he avoids people. Can't confirm this as I [thankfully] have never met him nor do I plan on doing so. I guess he's just your stereotypical laptop gangster who can't back up his words behind the safety of his computer.

Dan Valentine in real life is exactly what you think he would be like, a waste of life not worth talking about. You really can't hate him, if anything I feel sorry for him.

I don't understand people like this at all! This isn't like a political march where this person is fighting against something that is hurting him! Personally, I'm not too happy with what I've seen on railpics, but do I complain? NO! It is their site and Andrew and the rest of the screeners have EVERY right to do whatever they darn please with it! It should railpictures fighting against people like this not the other way around!

I'm sure Chris and Chris hate it every time he goes off on another RP photo. Every time he clicks or drives anyone here to click on a picture helps the site just a little more. I agree with Travis and need to piss him off. As far as 'm aware, I've never been called out by him. What? My 608 shots here are all good enough for him? That pisses me off!

Joe,

He's featured many of your shots, including your latest submission. His comment for this shot:

was "Good Grief! Charlie Brown". Note the poor punctuation and nonsensical nature of this statement, both trademarks of Roadrat Retarded Ramblings, Inc.

If I recall correctly, he also commented on:

Those three are ones I remember off the top of my head. So no, you're not special and your pictures aren't good enough for him. Welcome to the club.

I guess my shots will be among what he refers to as, "foreign crap". So, I'll never know if I achieve his high standards of photographic quality.

What a shame.
