Default Amtrak 11

does anybody know what detoured route the starlight will take to avoid the mudslide? and will train 14 still use the normal route?

What mudslide? #11 is already running over Tehachapi, #14 via Coast. The mudslide was last week, dude.

I personally have had a problem with those trying to tell us to turn railroad photography into an "art form." It's fine for them to do so, I welcome it in fact, but what I do have a problem with is that the practitioners of the more "arty" shots, I have found, tend to look down their nose's at others who are shooting more "mundane" shots.
Railroad photography is what you make of it, but one way is not "better" than another, IMHO. Unless you have a pole right thought the nose of the engine! -SG

oh, whatever. well then what is the exact route from oakland to ? and why is 11 going over tehachapi but not 14?

When 11 or 14 detour over the Tehachapi Loop, they don't stop at Oakland, it's to far out of the way.

They follow the route of the Sacramento bound San Joaquin's so no Oakland, Emeryville, or Martinez.

If you've ever done it, I recommend taking the trip one day they detour it.

Coast Starlight Train 11 Operates Non-stop between Oakland and Los Angeles and Will Not Stop at Intermediate Stations With Possible Delay Into Los Angeles

Effective on Select Dates between March 8 and April 25, 2011

On the dates shown below, track work being performed by Union Pacific Railroad will affect southbound Train 11 between Oakland and Los Angeles:
Possible Delay Into Los Angeles: March 8 - 15, 2011

Train 11 may arrive in Los Angeles 30 to 90 minutes later than scheduled to allow Union Pacific workers to clear the track.
Train 11 Detours between Oakland and Los Angeles

* March 23 - 31, 2011
* April 8 - 15, 2011
* April 23 - 25, 2011

Train 11 will operate as scheduled between Seattle and Oakland. During the three periods shown above, beginning March 23 through April 25, 2011, the train will travel on an alternate route from Oakland to Los Angeles and will not stop at any intermediate stations. Passengers will be provided alternate transportation to and from the following stations:

* San Jose
* Salinas
* Paso Robles
* San Luis Obispo
* Santa Barbara
* Oxnard
* Simi Valley
* Van Nuys
* Burbank Airport

Alternate transportation will be provided via motorcoach and existing Amtrak train services. For more details, visit Amtrak.com, call 1-800-USA-RAIL (1-800-872-7245) or speak with a station agent.
Trains 11 and 14 Depart Two Hours Earlier Effective April 1, 2011

Trains 11 and 14, which have operated according to a later schedule from January 2 through March 31, 2011 will depart all stations on the route two hours earlier beginning April 1, 2011. The April 1 schedules are published in Amtrak printed timetables.

This time is different, #14 isn't detouring. 11 is, its running via Oakland then over Altamont Pass, wying at Lathrop then heading South on the UP Fresno Subdivision.
