Default Flagstaff in October

Hi All,

I'm new to the forum and need some help, I'm flying from United kingdom to Flagstaff from 2nd of October to 6th of October and am looking for some help in filming and videoing some UP, BNSF, Norfolk Southern and any other railroad operator that may go through flagstaff. I was previously in Flagstaff in January this year and stayed in a hotel just off the Highway 66 and at the back of the hotel was what I believe was the Santa Fe railway line (The hotel receptionist said it was)
Can somebody help me with good locations, directions and maybe a guide for a day or two, I'll have a 4x4 to use so access should be no problem.

Hope to make new friends in Flagstaff.

Cheers

Mathew

BNSF is the railroad you saw at Flagstaff. (ATSF is the predecessor company) You'll see significant volumes of freight trains at 2 Amtrak movements during the nighttime. I've not been there for 25 years so do not have any specific advise. I suspect others on the forum will respond in time with good information.

That stretch of Railroad is the BNSF Seligman Sub and the scenery and amount of traffic on that stretch of Railroad is incredible. I visited Flagstaff this past April and saw 15-20 trains in a 2 hour period.

This is a great site to get info on the Seligman Sub. Hope it helps.

Was In Flagstaff in March, saw over 20 trains in about 7 hrs. Would highly recommend taking a trip East of Flag. to Cosonino Rd. excellent scenery and location. Is just a short drive to this location but well worth the trip. Most of the BNSF photo's at the add. below were taken in that area. Be careful tho, you can expect a train at any time there on either track To see the UP, you have to go south of Phoenix to the Sunset Route. Would have seen more trains at Flag. but had one pull a coupler and go into emergency, clogging up one main for about 3 hrs

Hi All,

After reading the replys, I cannot wait to get to Flagstaff, It sounds as if it is going to be the best 5 days ever for me, I may be looking at a day in Kingman near Kingman county airport as a friend sent me a video of 4 AC4400's pulling 100+ double stack container train at sunset and it looks so amazing.

I cannot wait to be in Flagstaff.

Cheers
