Default Help with night shots

I need a little help with night shots.

This photo I took wasn't exactly what I wanted and I uploaded just to see what would happen......it was rejected for bad motive......but I knew that would happen.I need a few tips on night photography, like should I be closer to the Tracks?,should I be taking shots at oncoming trains or going away trains or both?,and maybe a few tips on what settings I should have to take the right photo.

This photo was taken pretty far away from the tracks and is a little dark but again I don't think I was standing close enough to the tracks. This was my first night shot ever taken.

Any suggestions would REALLY REALLY REALLY help.

A very dramatic photo. I like it a lot. I am not much of a nighttime photo guy, but the exposure looks fine on this monitor. No noise that I can see.

I like the composition; how all the illumination is to one side.

Thanks!!!

I did take another photo after this one of another westbound and I was standing closer to the tracks. It ended up pretty good but I didn't focus right so It turned up bluryish.I'll try again next time I go down to Polo.

The funny thing about this photos is that it was taken off of 6 plastic buckets that I got out of my grandmothers garage because I don't own a camera stand. If I want to take a photo closer to the tracks I have to walk down a farely steep hill with those 6 buckets..........in the dark!!!Hopefully nobody will ever see me because they'll think I'm a looney
