Default What does the Macro Feature do?

On my 70-300mm lens, theres a switch that reads Normal and Macro (200-300mm). Can anyone tell me what this feature is for? Thanks.

From what I understand, macro is mainly for closeups... if you want to zoom in on something small. Hope this helps, Greg.

Yep, macro is extreme close up of smaller subjects, like a flower, a bee on a flower, a dew drop, etc.

Macro mode is very useful for model railroad photography, if you have a layout.

If I understand it right, macro makes a photograh 1:1. So it is good for scientific and other documentation purposes. And, more importantly, model railroading!

most 70-300mm lenses make things only about 1:4 or 1:2.. not 1:1 ..
just to clarify
