Default Distracting Shadows - Not necessarily so distracting.

Rejected for Distracting Shadows:
http://www.railpictures.net/viewreject.php?id=181098
I'm not complaining, first and foremost. Does this photo have shadows? Most certainly. However, in my opinion, just because there are a lot of shadows, they arn't necessarily distracting. The first thing I notice is the wonderfully lit nose of the locomotive, then my eyes move to the colorful hills, then finally to the shadowed area. I don't think as soon as a screener sees large shadows that they should immediately discard it as being distracting. A closer look can reveal that shadows can be used to emphisize certain things, such as a not-so-common-anymore BN "white face" locomotive, or the fall colors on distant hills. But of course, this is only my point of view, which tends to lean more to the artistic side of things. But what I'm interested in is your opinion . . . what do you think?

I like it! I have uploaded photos like that a few times and all were rejected for "distracting shadows".Personally I don't see anything "distracting" about it or any photos like that.

Nice photo.. but I dont think the screener liked that big red splotch of a lens flare on the front of the locomotive... I dont see how the photos distract from the main subject of the photo

In this case, I don't believe the shadows are distracting, because the nose of the engine is lit, and that is the main impact. However, the red splotch, as was mentioned, is distracting, and the picture needs to be tilted a little CCW, too.

The shadow debate could be made, but the lens flare is definately a problem. The image quality/sharpness also appears to be a little less than great too.

I seem to like most everything . . . but I don't think I would add this one either. The motive is fine and such, but the reflection and or sun got ya.
