Default Blacklisted people get shots accepted!

Apparently the screener's don't read the remarks section...or may they're trying to prove a point:

Remarks: I am sure this will be rejected like every other shot I have uploaded lately.I realize that most of the rejections are correct,as I have had camera issues. But some are identical to images I have had accepted.Have I been "Blacklisted" by this site? Please let me know ,so I can stop wasting my time.

Glad I'm not the only one who saw that.

Serious though Mike. 962 freaking shots and you're pissed about rejections?

Bad angle (cars cutoff) and horizon unlevel.

Heh.. Interesting to say the least. I'm also rather surprised they accepted the image.

Is it possible that the screener DID see the remarks and accepted it for a particular reason.............?

Looks like he changed the comment. Was wondering if he might just request the photo be taken down.

(ahem)

If you're going to make incendiary statements, you need to back them up with concrete example. Otherwise people might think you are a crackpot.

Sorry about that. Are you a forum admin? Not trying to impress anyone, so let people think what they want.

As for an example to back up the statement: This thread?

One person gets upset and that means that there's a mass exodous off of RP? Or even an exodous at all. For your statement to be true, that would mean that more current RP contributors leave the site than new ones come here. I'm going to make a hunch that isn't true at all.

A cogent thought proocess might lead one to believe that while some contributos get upset and have their photos removed or even just take a prolonged break from the site, that since the database keeps filling up with more photographs and photographers, that the web site is, as of now, in little danger of collasping.

Please keep in mind that one data point doesn't indicate a trend. I'm all for good discussion, especially because I like the direction I think this is heading.

In an effort to further this discussion, I'll make a few comments about the photo in question:

1) If a contributor already has 900+ photos in the database, the screeners aren't out to get them. I think that's prima facie.

2) I think the photo isn't all that stellar, given that the poster has many far superior shots already in the database. If the choice were mine, I'd probably kick it out.

This brings up one of my favorite topics, "How much is enough?" It seems that contributors break down into two groups; those who post everything they can, and those who post only their best. It's the standard twist on quantity versus quality.

As to the concern that some long-time contributors are fleeing railpictures, I don't see any evidence of that. Sure, when I go railfanning I run into all sorts of people who whine about railpictures. Then they all run home and try to send shots in. Most of the whining is just that, whining. If you don't like it, you have three options. 1) Go play elsewhere. 2) Follow the suggestions you get when your photos are rejected, and try to adjust your photography. 3) If you still believe that your photos are deserving of acceptance despite what the screeners have to say, post your shots in these forums. You will find that audience here is fairly open to new, creative ideas, and has a good sense of aesthetics. The court of public opinion can be your best friend, or they can echo what the screeners have to say.

If long-time contributors are leaving railpictures, then I think that needs to be aired out on these forums. Until we hear from people who are truly fed up, people with at least 100 shots in the database and an average view count of 600+/photo, then I say everything else is speculation.

I'm in a third group... I post images infrequently. For no other reason than sometimes I just don't feel the need too. I do not necessarily post my best (best is relative to personal taste of course), and I don't post everything that has a chance. Lets call this group the casual poster.

You find any creation of man or God, and I'll show you something that people complain about. RP is no different. I doubt there is an exodus going on, though. I am away from the internet virtually every weekend, so on Monday morning when I get on my PC at work I check email and other things and RP is one of them. There is a relatively constant amount of new shots added to the DB over the weekend that seems to be in the 300-400 shot range. Not scientific, but seems constant enough to me. If people are leaving, they are being replaced.
