Default The Best Comment You've Received on a Shot Here

I was completely floored by a comment I got on one of my photos today.

I don't usually get too many comments on my shots - to get one that positive (from someone with as much work here as David has - 1,245 shots) was awesome.

What's the best comment you've received on a photo here?

There are a lot of comments that come to mind but the one that I remember the best is this:

Andrew, Beautiful use of available light. I love the light of the signals showing, as well as their silhouette, which means you began the exposure before the train showed up. Also, very nice and subtle light gradations among the trees at the left of the image. Very, very nice. --Steve Schmollinger

A tad off topic, but don't you hate when you get that notice that you have a comment, and for a second you're psyched, and then you read it and it has nothing to do with your picture, but is simply informational?

It might be Joe LeMay's comment on this one:

For me it's not the content of the comment but who left it.

Anytime I can get a comment from AB2 saying I came up with a shot he hasn't thought of means something as creative as he is. I would like to thank everyone who has commented on my photos over the years. View counts are nice, but its nice to know when someone has taken a little extra time to show they appreciated your work.

I agree with Darryl here, getting comments always beats out view counts. And thank you to anyone who takes the time to comment my stuff.

Most of the better photos on this site (sunrise, sunset, show shots, and mood shots, etc.) never seem to get as many views as they should, but they do generate lots of comments. If you have a 500 view shot but it has about 6 or 7 comments, you've done pretty well. Way better than that derailment shot that is top of last week with 8,000 views with the only comment being "WOW! Hope no one got hurt." I guess that belongs more in the pet peeve thread.

Anyways, onto my best comments:

While I really appreciate the comments, I find it puzzling why a photo will get several comments during it's first 24 hours and get beat out for TOY, by a photo (excluding wreck shots), with one or no comment.

That is why comments, in my opinion, beat out views in value. A view can mean someone simply wanted a better view of a certain detail. A comment means you struck a chord with someone who took the time (12 seconds or so) to write a comment and let you know. As for confusion - it always seemed odd that people list certain photos as there favorite in their profile but hadn't left a comment?!

Here are a few that instantly come to mind for me, though with over 250 photos on RP, I'm sure there are others -all of which I have taken the time to personally thank.

Everyone, of course, but Richard Steven's comment uniquely

My first attempt at a "human element" shot.....

I had some serious reservations about submitting that shot. I thought the Screeners would boot it for one reason or another. Just getting it in made me feel good, but having a few viewers take the time to write some nice comments really made my day.

Kevin

PS - How are you folks getting the thumbnails to appear in these posts? I've looked at all of the options on the posting screen, but the magic still eludes me.....

Update: Thanks JRMDC! I just implemented the fix.

The bad thing is, it doesn't say who posted it.

I'd love to thank them, (unless they are anonymous because they are being ironic...........)

J-M Frybourg really liked this one.

All in all, I love getting comments and make sure to give them to deserving shots I see.

I'm with Mitch I would take comments over views anyday.

I think this shot has some pretty neat coments.

I am so glad it is almost May, time for the steam shots to start rolling in! My goal for the year is to get more comments, this will mean less normal stuff that I put on, and more outside of the box stuff.

Reason I like this one so much is it was for a snapshot my late father took when he was 12 (the present age of my oldest kid).

I know the quality of the photograph is a joke compared to the beauty of the other shots in this thread, but the comment really warmed my heart.

I'm still a bit confused about your remarks on this photo:

Quote:
Why did the pedestrian get struck? He was making a gesture towards the train which involved his middle finger. He didn't get out of the way in time and was stuck and killed.
So, because he was flipping off the train, he wasn't able to get out of the way in time?
