Default FBI looking into Metra track tampering

Two scary incidents have surfaced this week on Chicago's Metra line.

1) 09/24 Metra employees found close to 15 railroad spikes that were removed from the Metra Electric Line in the area of 100th Street and the Biship Ford Freeway on Chicago's Southside.
2) 09/25 Metra Track Foreman found a 2 to 3 inch chain wrapped around the base of the catenary structure and hooked to the rails in the area of 100th Street and Cottage Grove Ave.

Default FBI has clues

The tool that apparently was used by the saboteur(s) to remove spikes on the Metra Electric Line was found by investigators. The tool, a spike puller, was discovered in the weeds near a streatch of tracks where the spikes have been removed. Another 30 spikes were found missing in the area of 100th Street and Dauphin Ave, were the tracks cross over the Bishop Ford Freeway.
The spike puller recovered is a crowbar like tool commonly used by railroad crews. Experts said whoever removed the spikes would have needed to know how to use the tool and be fairly strong. FBI is continuing to investigate the tampering but would not comment about anymore details.

Also, the FBI confirmed it was continuing to pursue leads into an incident in June in which shots were fired at a Metra Electric train, in an alleged case of domestic violence involving an engineer.
