Well, you can't go wrong with a railroad who paints one of their locomotives up in the colors of the University of Kentucky. Therefore, I'll have to say the Paducah & Louisville. Sorry guys, gotta stay in my own backyard for this one.

I really don't know if this is a reginal or a short line RR but the Louisville and Indiana seems to be a really good company. They have invested millions of $$$ into the rail line from Louisville to Avon IN.

When the LIRC got the track it was 10mph, it is now up to 35mph, and work contiues. They have invested money into local economies by helping companies build rail spurs and infrastructure.

Also I have spoken with the LIRC President, John Secor, by e-mail. He is a nice guy and really is personable.

Just one from my backyard.

The RBMN isn't on my "high-priority" list (Ain't much of a big RR compared to the Ohio Central). Dang, should've added the SusieQ .

Default W&LE

The Wheeling and Lake Erie has been my favorite recently. Watching Geeps drag a long cut of coke hoppers over several spindly viaducts is a real treat. The only bad thing I can say about that railroad is I wish they ran more trains!

For some reason it says I already voted. Funny... because I don't remember voting in this poll.

Anyways, my vote would go to Guilford. I know they're not the best, but they're my favorite.

Why isn't Iowa Chicago and Eastern on that pole.

Well I guess I'll have to vote for MRL.

I'm going to have to go with Iowa Interstate on this one. IAIS brought back life to the old Rock Island in Illinois and Iowa, and they have the coolest paint scheme by far.

I'll take DGNO/TNER as the best shortline regional railroad out there. Its as hard a working railroad as I've ever seen. They serve the Dallas area and north and east of the metroplex all the way out to Texarkana.

A close second is Fort Worth Western Railroad (FWWR). This railroad serves Ft. Worth east to Carrollton, and west out towards San Angelo. Quite a bit of mileage. I also believe this company has the best paint scheme of any railroad out there. Yes I'm biased, being from D/FW.

With Guilford buying SD40-2 variants of all shapes and backgrounds, It has to be them right now. The top three, no doubt, are NYSW, W&LE, and Pan Am. I love the MRL, but SD70M-2's are the deal changer.

Talk about a dredged up thread. Holy cow.

For the record, UP4635, it is not considered good forum manners to pull up an old thread (much more than two weeks), unless you have something very substantial to add, and if it is this old, you could probably start your own thread.

Steven, how could you leave Florida East Coast off the list? It seems to be slanted toward the Great Lakes area.

How does anyone of us really know which one is the best? A fairer question would be: Which regional is your favorite? As far as which regionals, the Ohio central and W&LE are th two I want to photograph more than the others lsted.

I am surprised W&LE did not get more votes. How many railroads do you know of that still keep the DRGW paint schemes?
