Default Your opinions?

I am looking to upgrade my lenses and would like your opinions.

What I have: Canon 300D & 400D with the kit lens, 11 year old Canon 35-80mm that came with a Canon Rebel X, and an 11 year old Canon EF 75-300mm 1:4-5.6 II that I bought with the Rebel X.

What I'm considering: Sigma Zoom Super Wide Angle AF 17-70mm f/2.8-4.5 DC Macro & Canon Zoom Telephoto EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS Image Stabilizer USM.

Besides trains they would be used for landscape/nature photos.

The Sigma 17-70 is a great lens, and an excellent upgrade over the kit (and, I presume, the 35-80). I put it on my 300D. Haven't use the tele-zoom.

Per this review of the Canon 70-300, take a close look at the 70-200 f/4 L. I just picked one up, and many others here have it as well.

I own a Canon Zoom Telephoto EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS Image Stabilizer USM lens.

Image quality is as close to L Glass quality you can get in a non L lens from canon in this zoom range however the image does tend to get a little soft from 200mm to 300mm. The 'IS' is brilliant don't leave home without it. On the downside it is let down by the plastic construction, with the lens extended out to the 300mm mark the inner barrel does move around a little. If you do not require the IS feature I would look at the 70-200 L F4 for about the same price. Check out this review from PhotoZone.

I don't own the sigma lens but PhotoZone have a review here.

Cheers,

Christine.

Thanks, looks like the Canon EF 70-200mm f/4 USM L is the way to go.
