For what it's worth, one of my photos is a cover photo for a local publication. They found it on my Flickr page. Got a nice little payday and significant circulation.

Let me repeat, one of MY mediocre sucky photos!

Oh, I knew that response was coming as soon as I typed it up.

If I had my the link to my RP pics in my sig like Troy does, I'd definitely have my flickr link. But I don't have either...but maybe I should.

So....I'm gone a couple of days, and this thread continues to wander on and on to this topic and then back, like a drunk going from bar to bar. So typical...

I should try flickr again. My wife gave me permission to be a link whore if it produced viable income.

Will somebody follow me?

Producing viable income from railroad photography is much like military intelligence---it's an oxymoron.

The owners of this site have managed to do it, so... more interestingly, they've managed to do it on the backs of other people's photography.

Smile Good to have options

I enjoy my new Flickr account. The graphics are very attractive. It is a great way to display and organize my images. And it is super easy to use (once I master how to leave a comment on somebody else's picture). It will be interesting to see how much "traffic" to my images evolves...I am too lazy to "campaign" my stuff as some suggest you need to do to generate much traffic. We'll see.

But right now I see Flickr as more as an alternative to my own website (which gets little traffic) than to RP, where several hundred hits often occur overnight. But that could change. If Flickr had been around (or if I had known about it) at the time, it might have been an alternative to my own site, although my Gallery software does a few things better (like text).

I enjoy RP worts and all, especially now that between Flickr and my own place I have alternatives venues. Despite its flaws RP finds ways to highlight some superb photography, and its format makes it reasonably easy to wade through the wedgies. I do miss the good stuff from some of the folks who have departed. RP was something of a pioneer, and like many pioneers it is growing old. Hopefully it will find ways to refresh itself.

In our competitive world RP's worts are clearly seen as an opportunity by others, and maybe some real competitors will surface who really can do it better. Or at least differently. There are already some competitors out there, but so far they do not seem to have reached the mass audience, or don't want to reach the mass audience.

So for the time being I expect to keep RP in my rotation.

Sigh... I like Amazon.com as it's a one stop shop for just about anything I could ever desire. As RP appears to be divesting itself of certain brands, I will have to make more time to "shop" elsewhere. John - I did a search on FLICKR for "John West" and came up short as expected. Would you be so kind as to give us directions?

you can find me on Flickr at https://www.flickr.com/photos/124319201@N04/. Interesting that a search for "John West" didn't work, perhaps you have to use a persons "screen name"....in my case "Osier Yardmaster". Maybe I need to tag stuff with my name. Still learning.

I didn't know my relatives in the U.K. had started marketing their fish in Germany.

The search box normally looks for photos. You need to search for Flickr members.

On the left side of the Flickr header, click: People> Photos from> People already on Flickr.

Only (I believe) when you make a purchase in state. Amazon may have a warehouse in FL. They have one in PA - sometimes I'll look for another "store" out of state, though buying direct from Amazon does at times have it's perks.

It's for all purchases. They are BUILDING a warehouse in the state, but it's not opening till next year.

News to me, but I can't claim issue with Amazon as it's not of their own doing. I would think all this new taxable income should get each state out of debt within a few weeks, lol.

Now - if you would like to divert some of your money from Amazon and on towards your favorite charity (Like FIRE UP 611 and others), check out AmazonSmile: https://smile.amazon.com/

They started that here in NC this past February although I have noticed that at times tax is still not charged. I think it is for purchases through Amazon itself but not through 3rd party sellers in they aren't located in the same state as you are in.

I am fine with Amazon purchases being taxable. It never made much sense to me from a policy view to give them a favored status vs. bricks/mortar.
