Default Montana Rail Link = Awesome

Well, I made it back to south Texas from Montanta on Sunday night (well technically Monday morning). I had a hell of a time in Montana from the 21st through the 29th and certainly want to come back again to get some good shots on Mullan and Bozeman passes, as well as in Livingston. However, I am very satisfied with the photographic results of this trip with as you will see below.

A list of goals for this trip and their status (in no partcular order):
1.) Night Gas over Evaro....Accomplished
2.) A chase up the 4th Sub....Accomplished multiple times
3.) The Polson local....Accomplished
4.) Mullan Pass....Saw it, but I need to come back to get better shots of the tunnel and trestle due to weather, smoke, and lack of trains
5.) Bozeman Pass....Saw it, but I need to get sunlit shots of the chase
6.) MRL SD70ACe...Accomplished - Photographed numerous times on ML, LM, Night Gas, and Helper duty
7.) MRL "Classic Power"...Accomplished - GP35s, SD45s, etc photographed in regular service
8.) Livingston...Missed it due to bad weather

I'm sure there were others, but I can't seem to remember them right now.

Also, before the pictures, some interesting facts....
1.) This trip to MT provided me a chance to visit four states that I had never been too (CO (the airport in Denver does count), WA, ID, and, of course, MT).
2.) I was able to photograph trains in three of those states (MT, ID, and WA)
3.) Nearly 3000 miles were driven to/from Spokane and all over MRL territory

Like above, I'm sure there are some other factoids, but I can't seem to think of any right now.

Ok, here are the pictures. I'll break them down by date/chase/location. For details, refer back to my posts on the MRL yahoo group from last week that detail exactly what I saw where and other items. The locations shown below are only a subset of locations and trains photographed during the trip that yielded, in my mind, the best photos.

Enjoy!

Patrick,
I thoroughly enjoyed all of your Montana stuff. You did real well up there. The MRL is on my to-do list and hopefully whenever I make it out there I will come back with as many nice shots as you did.

Except for every single one of them, they all kind of remind me of the majestic scnerery of Philadelphia. I haven't photographed any "big blue skies" in some time...

All kidding aside, it looks like you done good. Very nice collection of photos!

Lots of great stuff there, Patrick! But this one stands out to me the most. Great composition and it's VERY sharp. Nice work.

Get out of my head, Mitch. I searched for that photo last night (found it) and was going to post the SAME exact thing, but then never got around to it (too tired...bed was calling my name. ha ha).

Yes, I love that one, too.

Funnily enough, I've seen most of these photos while browsing for prototype photos of trains I'm attempting to re-create in MSTS! I thoroughly enjoyed all of them the first time I saw them, and again just now!

OUTSTANDING Trip Report! Thanks for taking the time to create it. And some really good shots, too, oh by the way.

On my summer break I'm planning to hop a freight along an MRL line. Great shots!

Not that I want to start this again, but maybe because of your thread about rpl.

One thing about internet. Once you post something you cant take it back. It will always be with you forever. So just keep that in mind next time before you post something like you did.
