Default Gallery: GE Dash 7's

With the "official" announcement that all CSX B30-7's and B36-7's will be retired within 90 days, i feel a little tribute to the GE Dash 7 line is in order. To me they were special as they were the engines i grew up with, for years there was always one assigned the the Athens Y111 local job. In their own regard they were special too, the last of their kind on class 1 railroads and the sole reminder of a different era of GE left on mainline rails.
I originally intended for this to a gallery to be just for CSX B3#-7's but i understand thats a bit specialized of a topic, so Dash 7's of any railroad are welcome.
Ill start us of with my collection.

What could be my last ever CSX Dash 7 shot.

My only shot of a B36-7 doing what they were intended to, so late in their careers i was really lucky to get a shot like this.

None of my -7 shots are RP worthy, I never even tried because they are all P&S quality, grainy, OOF, soft pieces of junk. Maybe 30 years from now I can submit them and they will get in just for historical reasons like some of the old crap from the 50's and 60's taken through the windshield of a moving car type of stuff accepted

Before the SD80MAC invasion, Dash 7s were sometimes all one could find at Selkirk. Here's a shot I took literally half a lifetime ago; discounting a handful of switchers, the only units on the ready tracks that are not a Dash 7 of some sort are the GP40-2* at mid-left and the EMD cut off at the right edge of the image.

Thems was the days.

* Everything in the GP38-GP39-GP40 line looks the same to me, and I'm not pulling out my copy of the Marre book to figure out if that guess is correct or not.

The first one is my favorite scheme. Used to see a lot of ex-AT&SF 7s in Memphis when I was there, but have very few photos to prove that.

No B36-7’s in the database but I do have some dash 7’s. One of my goals for 2009 that didn’t happen was to get back to South Georgia and shoot them on the locals, when I lived in Brunswick back in 2000 I would get tired of shooting them.

All three Franklin Industrial Minerals in service B23-7’s sit outside their shop building.

Tell me about it!

Anyway, I have only been able watched them roll by, and never photographed them. Anyway, I won't stop praying to see one!

Just remember kids, don't think that this is the end of these units! Many will be coming to a Regional or, Shortline near you!

I don't see a lot of BNSF love here, so here's a couple from me:

And that's a GP10 it's attached too...only 4 years ago, seems like ages.

There is at least one U-boat in that shot... I'd say given the date of the shot that it's a U23C.

I remember well watching trio's of B36-7 on TV's blasting past BV Tower at 70 per outside Buffalo on the WLR in the late 1980's. That was, IMO, the best set of power a TV could get and they just never looked right hauling general freight to me, just pigs. Seeing them on a lowly work train is just plain wrong.

I'll take your word for it since I sure can't spot it. Nevertheless, the presence of a U23C would make complete sense; Conrail was using them on the East End pull-down jobs pretty much right up until the end.

In the engine terminal, 1st GE on the right... with the big rust mark on the 'rails' of Blue's can opener and a switcher is coupled to it's rear. The lack of a winged radiator is the giveaway at a distance.
