Default A couple of rejects

This one was rejected for bad cropping. Any ideas or just let it go?

This was rejected for being over sharpened. I didn't do any sharpening to the picture at all.

Any help would be wonderful.

Dave

For the first one, it's similar to the reject in this thread:

I'd lose the sky, some on the left, and maybe the tree on the right if able.

For the second, not sure...

1) I think that's one that you need to go back and try again. Looks like it was pretty hazy that day which is never good. Try zooming in a bit more to make the train bigger. You don't need the top of the hills/trees and so much water.

2) I don't know if it is over sharpened or not, but it does look a bit off.

1st one needs a bit of contrast work, but I don't think its worth a resubmit due to the tree infront of the nose

2nd one could be much better with a bit of contrast work and USM (see attachment for example)

Your first pic has so much potential. Here's a crop w/processing to maybe motivate you to back and retry it. You may need to cut that tree down that was in front of the lead loco, though.

thanks for the input. I'll try the cropping suggestions on the second one and I may head up there again in the fall. to try again.
