Color hue- can you see it?

Hi all,

Though I'm not a fairly new member of RP, this is my first post in the forums. I submitted a shot of a CSX train shunting in the yard at around 4 pm yesterday, so the lighting was somewhat harsh. To my surprise it was rejected for color hue. I can usually figure these out pretty quick, but Im caught up on this one.

Easy one! Too blue. Might be too green as well

Looks overly blue and oversaturated.

Your editing software can be your friend here - surely you have an "auto-color" option to select - most photo processing software does - heck, even Photoshop has it. Click it. Though it may not always offer the look you desire, it does a great job "proofing" your color balance and often gives you a base point to work with should you desire a warmer (yellow /orange) or cooler (blue /green) photo.

While you're at it - a "second opinion" is not a bad idea with regards to "tone" and "contrast".

I seemed to get a handle on the color issue ( at least I think), but a 2nd try brought a high sun reject.

At 4 PM, is a high sun angle possible? They might be judging by the amount of light hitting the undercarriages or the shadow that the rail head makes on the rail web.

Unfortunately, yes. It's absolutely possible. I've had photos taken after 5PM be rejected for high sun. And looking back, the rejection was legit. As it seems to be in this case...

I understand that now. After reading past "during midday hours during the summer" in the reject reason, I see that they explain things further:

"High sun is considered to be present when there are extended shadows on the underframe of the train, the plow, long vertical grab iron shadows, and generally harsh light on the visible vertical surfaces of the train."

Should have been given this rejection the first time so you didn't have to waste any time reprocessing it and submitting again.
