Default PRR 2-10-0 Decapod 4483, Is it still in Hamburg,N.Y.??

Is PRR 2-10-0 Decapod 4483 still sitting by the depot at Hamburg,N.Y. on display. Would love to get up there to get photo's of it.. I am assuming that it is a very early morning shot for the correct sun angle.. Thanks.

It was still there a year ago when I passed through there, and I haven't heard of it being moved. And yes, it would be a morning shot for proper lighting.

I recently saw a bit (I think it was in the June issue of Railfan and Railroad, but it may have been elsewhere) that the group that owns the engine is in the process of trying to buy some real estate to build on and relocate their collection to. I'll try to dredge up the details, but it would be nice if they could get the Hippo under cover.

There is a 2-10-0 in Gainesville, GA, former Gainesville Midland RR, which was a shortline owned by the SAL. I was always curious of it's origin. It may be ex-PRR or part of one of their orders.

I knew I'd seen pictures of this engine before. If you query her Road Number in the search engine on the home page, you'll see a few shots of her, mostly from AB(2) and CB(1).

The engine in Gainesville is a light Baldwin standard decapod. SAL ordered a number of them, of which #209 is one, originally numbered SAL 533. Ex-Great Western (of Colorado) #90, now on the Strasburg Railroad is essentially of the same class, though sporting an extended smokebox.

A good many of those survived seeing as steam on the Gainesville Midland lasted until 1959 when the line was bought out by the SAL which promptly retired the decrepit decapods, which were on their last legs.
The 206 is preserved as SAL 544

The 208 is preserved by the CSX Abbeville Sub in Winder, the Midland used to go through here as well but it was pulled up after the merger (A condition of th merger was that the line had to be abandoned)

The 203 is at the Southeastern Railways Museum in Duluth but is in pretty rough shape, it could have been on display in Athens but the city turned down the offer.........
