You posting several photos grabbed mine.

If the great Jim Thias can post multiple photos on RP, maybe I can too.

Inspiration!

A snappy response might have been, "Well, I could comment on your photos, but only if you PROMISE to not get mad."

5 cloudy/common pics submitted and accepted. I must be paying them.

Last fall I gave a couple of genuinely constructive observations (both very mild and very obvious) to a kid on Flickr with the purpose of helping him along. Others have given me some great pointers over the years that have saved me tons of time. Anyway, the kid went absolutely beserk! I'm talking Wackoville here. And then he begins with the personal attacks. (He's still stalking me after well over half a year now.) Anyway, his defense was, "I get a lot more faves than you do!" Well yeah. I'm not playing the "fave game." "Faves" on Flickr (and maybe here?) are mostly only becoming a measurement of how often YOU "fave" others, nothing more. When I was in Jr. High, we called that a "circle jerk."

I think I remember that! A flash-lit night shot of a WSOR freight, or something of the sort? I remember trying to intervene on your behalf, but just gave it up because I couldn't argue with "he can criticize my photos when he has more faves than me." He did take damn good photos, but wow.

How else would you measure how "good" a shot is???

Certainly not dollar value:

How would you measure how much better the color blue is than the color orange? That's just it--you're in a realm where there can be no objectivity. As for "faves", everybody knows they aren't a measurement of how good a shot is so much as a measurement of how many shots from others an individual has "faved." It's become a measurement of of social activity, not quality. At some point, maybe it's not important to measure how "good" a shot is--you just know it? The knowledge that you pulled off a great shot is fulfillment in itself? I've often thought I'd rather have two or three people I really admire (including but certainly not limited to Joel Jensen, Brian Plant, Steve Crise) than a 100 "faves" from people I either don't know or whose images I don't personally find compelling.
