Kate Shelly Bridge

I thought I read somewhere they had suspended service on this bridge. I hope that I am just not remembering correctly. I'd like to take a trip out there soon.

EDIT: a railfan trip to see the bridge would be useless at the moment... all roads around the area are colsed on account of building the new bridge... the only view of the bridge is from the air or the wagon wheel bridge a half mile north of there...

So it would seem they are building a replacement.. Well the nearly 100 yr old bridge would make me nervous, but its seems like it was extremely well built at the time. Roads closed eh.. Thats what the mountain bike is for..

I retract my previous statement...

The entire AREA to the north West and East is closed... You could get there from the south on the river if you tried hard enough.

They are also going to replace the UP swing bridge over the mississippi in Clinton Iowa...

I was there just this last weekend. I was able take the road that is north of the bridge and get a backlit view but where the road curves south to go towards the bridge is closed and they also have no trespassing signs up. It is also very, very muddy. I was on a schedule so did not try any roads south of the bridge, so I have no info there.

Thats because there isnt any with a view of the bridge...
