Default Ask first

Group,

I figure I'll ask first before the rejection. Is this shot at all what RP would except? Is it something worth trying to do on more sunny/favorable light type day? Or would I get the "PEQ" no matter what? I plan to hopefully improve on the picture if it's worth it. If nothing else it's something I've never seen before.

Thanks in advance!

I don't want to offer an opinion on whether that'll get a PEQ rejection -- after all, I'm not a screener! -- but as for the "What is it?" query: Ballast cleaner. The big wheel scoops up ballast, which has impurities removed as it progresses through the cars and is then dumped back onto the track structure. The end result is to improve drainage of water away from the track.

Wow! I mean accept not except. Opps. Thanks for the info as to what it is. After a little search of Youtube, I found a few videos of it in action plus a search of RP turned up several shots. Wicked looking thing.

I didn't look for those shots. Were they action shots? That would be killer with the dust kicking, etc.

Congratulations on both the shot being accepted and of it being the Top of 24!

Group,

I tried another "action" shot of the ballast cleaner and it got the gong for PEQ. And idea why? Is it that bad of a shot? I did get a small window of sun as eveident by the shadows on the rails but not much. Is there something else I missed? Is there something I should do different? Any thoughts out there?

I tried this one and it also got the gong for PEQ. I can see why with the washed out sky but is there another reason?

Thanks in advance!
