I like the note, I don't like roster shots. Slide shows of them are literally the most painful things to sit through.

I like Landrum's shot of the hand written sign as well. Don't get hung up on the wrong notion that a good railroad image always needs to have a train in it. In fact, the best ones usually don't include a train (IMHO).
"Usually" is just a wee bit strong.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I do believe there is a reason why so many Link/Steinheimer/etc images include trains. Why is that so?

Thinking, thinking ...

I'm just sayin'----but Plowden's railroad images get more critical claim from the art world than Steinheimer's. Again, I'm just sayin'....

RP.net is not overly populated with learned art experts. I'm not one of 'em, I quickly add...

I'm not a big fan of Plowden myself, although my knowledge of his work is limited to his book Vanishing Point: Fifty Years of Photography

Actually, I'm not either. As I said...I'm not a learned art critic.

A roster shot of a caboose is worse than a wedgie of a dash 9, to me anyway.

I abhor roster shots. But the cool stuff, like that note. That is the type of stuff that we will talk about for years.

Pleasing everybody- impossible!
Whether it's wrecks, Darwins, vintage, foreign, rosters, RR art, RR fiction, someone's not liking it.

The note? Waste of pixels [DELETE].

My top shot on flickr for a long time- a roster shot of a tank car:

Look, I am not saying Roster shots don't deserve to be on RP but I don't have to like them.

Wonder what Troy's take is on them since they are about as photo journalistic as things come and Troy says Photo Journalism has no place in this hobby.

Let's not forget that tastes can change over the decades. Once upon a time, I had no use for trolleys or anything foreign. Now I have hundreds of trolleys, interurbans, and foreign shots saved to hard drive.

Obviously you're shooting the wrong kind of caboose shots!

I am a huge fan of his rail-related work. I have all of his books related to that but not of his other work.

His lonely, decaying America photography can only come from a man who has poetic blood coursing through his veins.

As I have little such blood it can be difficult for me to appreciate such work.

I would hardly call that a roster shot. It is much more in line with the work of Plowden. The scene tells a story not conveyed by anything like the OPs shots or of anything I would consider a roster shot.

Thanks for all the responses guys. A week has passed and I'm really not any less corn fused on the rejection reason for these two shots. If I read the responses correctly neither is anyone else. After some technical fixes, thanks bigbassloyd, maybe I'll try them again some day. And sorry MagnumForce if they do eventually make it into the database. Remember, you DON"T have to click on them if you don't like them.

I don't think roster shots don't deserve to be here. I just don't like them and I still think these are less than technically perfect which is a must for roster shots.

Yet, less then perfect wrecks get on all the time.

Considering there are no other shots of either, I'd have accepted each, at least on appeal or with a note to the screener stating that fact (assuming those are even read).
