Gallery: Railfan Residences
I haven't seen a gallery thread in a while, and those were fun, so here's one I'm don't think has been done. I really love old stores and houses, so it's always nice to work one into a shot. Here's a gallery for trackside houses that are just asking to be bought by a railfan.
Here are a few of mine and a favorite from Mitch...share away!

Neat gallery!
Not sure if this house is beggining to be purchased by a railfan, perhaps it's just a wee bit too close to the tracks?

Just two for me:

A few to choose from along the river. Would have been better before CN abondoned their line to Picton as it passed under the CP bridge and included some street running.

These even have a view of the water as well:

Not as much variety when you live along a tourist line:

My Helmstetter contribution, with the old barn:
PhotoID: 170129 Photograph © Christopher Blaszczyk
It's gotta be a trackside house when one of the most famous spots on the line is your driveway:
PhotoID: 300624 Photograph © Christopher Blaszczyk
You can't see the house just out of view to the right, but the road right behind the signal is a driveway. "Honey, I got the mail, and we got a clear for a northbound."

And finally, two of my favorites from other photographers:

Not a "pretty" house at all but boy you'd sure see a lot of trains! I believe it's a currently occupied rental house:

I'm sure the residents will soon be asking CSX why they built a rail yard next to their new condo’s.

I like these types of shots because I find houses very interesting, and I would like to try to incorporate many more into my shots.

In searching for it, I found that the seach "backyard" revealed a lot of good entries, but alas, I don't have time to post them.

I've got a few...
The famous village of Time near the Consol Energy Bailey mine:
PhotoID: 321452 Photograph © Ben Sutton
I'm sure that A) One of these houses is up for sale, B)One of these houses is own by a railfan being it just west of Cumberland Yard or C)Someone is willing to sell one of these houses to get away from the noise, haha.
PhotoID: 320533 Photograph © Ben Sutton
Doesn't see much traffic anymore, but I wouldn't mind the view.
PhotoID: 318965 Photograph © Ben Sutton
Would LOVE to live on that hillside. Pretty much can see the whole OC Bridge from there probably
PhotoID: 301782 Photograph © Ben Sutton
As above mentioned
PhotoID: 304889 Photograph © Ben Sutton
Very surprised no one mentioned here! Mr. Snyder, the owner, is a very avid railfan
PhotoID: 300109 Photograph © Ben Sutton
Rented out to railfans everyday
PhotoID: 294303 Photograph © Ben Sutton
Duh!
PhotoID: 304269 Photograph © Ben Sutton
Have a few more, that's it for now.
Ben

Just off to the left, very nice house on a private road, right next to the BNSF Allouez Branch, with the train, and the CN's former DMIR Interstate Branch off to the right out of sight.

This house has a great view of the Iron Range Sub, there is also a house on an island in the middle of the lake, where the guy uses a rowboat to get out there, in plain view of the tracks.

I personally have had a problem with those trying to tell us to turn railroad photography into an "art form." It's fine for them to do so, I welcome it in fact, but what I do have a problem with is that the practitioners of the more "arty" shots, I have found, tend to look down their nose's at others who are shooting more "mundane" shots.
Railroad photography is what you make of it, but one way is not "better" than another, IMHO. Unless you have a pole right thought the nose of the engine! -SG

This kinda makes me happy that I have stuff to add to this gallery. Sad that it makes me happy, isn't it?
PhotoID: 313280 Photograph © Chris Henchey (The Hench)
Yes it's across from the tracks. But, not a ton of variety.
PhotoID: 322660 Photograph © Chris Henchey (The Hench)
Still, not a lot of variety. But, the amount of trains and the scenic urban setting make it more appealing.
