Default Unauthorized photo use

I was alerted to someone selling calenders full of photo's they "stole" from Railpictures.net. They have a lot of calenders, you may want to check them and see if you have been a victim of someone else trying to profit off your work.

Off my soapbox for now.

That's got to be my favorite of his items!

Is there any way to see what's inside these calendars, besides buying one?

looks to be 8x11 images, at least on the cover if not inside. If he is trying to print that based on a sub-1MB file copied from RP, the print quality must be atrocious.

There is an option on the right to report an item. If you can find one of your stolen photos, I would suggest reporting it to ebay.

Been there, done that, Greg. Someone was selling framed editions of three of mine a while back. All were lifted illegally from a legitimate calendar that paid me for the photos. I reported it to ebay and the calendar publisher. Never heard a word from any of them.

The problem with copyright violations is that it is pretty much up to the victim to pursue the case from start to finish. There are no copyright cops you can call. I've you've got unlimited funds, you can hire a lawyer and go after them.....assuming the thieves have two nickels to rub together.

That's not true, you can use the DMCA to require ebay to take them down. If ebay does not, they are subject to fines and prosecution. You must be emailing the wrong person.

The guy lifted one of my photos. I e-mailed him, called him out for it, and asked that he take down the listing. He did so within two hours. Now, will this stop him from re-listing when no one is looking? Of course not. But at least I got my point across and for now, he's complying.

For the price he's selling these things, by the time he gets them printed up and shipped, he's not making much of a profit (if any at all) anyway.

However, it does feel pretty violating to see someone else trying to sell your stuff. I've avoided watermarks on my RP photos because I feel that they detract from the image, but I guess it's time to start using them if I'm going to post here.

I see that this guy has changed the cover picture. He never did respond to my e-mail to apologize. Now he is ripping off someone else. The guy just doesn't get it!

The people who've had their pictures stolen need to make a formal complaint to ebay.

Here is the information from Ebay about intellectual property rights.

Every single one of the links now states that the item is no longer available. Did he take them down, or did eBay do it for him?

Of all things, I found multiple realtors using one of my pictures. I suppose if the house sells, I can get a percentage of the profits?

In this case the Georgia MLS (real estate)

He took them down after a number of people including me told him to and contacted Ebay, I guess it worked. He has pretty poor taste in photo since he used this as the cover for his KCS album....

Not sure how that fella defines "high quality"... every photo I see that he used has to be near the bottom of the barrel relative to RP.net's acceptable image guidelines.

Piss poor taste I guess.

Simple.

If there is a huge difference between the calendars he claims are his, and the ones that are stolen, people will know they are stolen.

If the pictures are not so radically different, it's believable.

Except if he is stealing photos off line and then printing them, the quality has to be pretty bad, right?

I would figure they would be a mess. I can barely print an acceptable 4x6 from an interwebz photo file.

That's what amazes me that no one complained when they got their product.
