7490 has fallen too...this makes for 24 units left in blue, and with some in storage, the total number of units actually running around is less than 20.

20 or so Conrails left and going fast, equal number of YN1 units, SD80MAC's heading to Mexico permanently, SD70MAC's going to Mexico for who know how long, B-Boats: gone, YN3 plague: getting worse.
Each day and another reason not to bother shooting CSX.
Several good sources. Get your shots now cause they are all being rounded up in Waycross, 3 have already gone south, right under my nose and I was unable to get out and shoot them or they ran after dark.
These units have some problems and CSX wasn't too happy with them because from what I had heard they were not planning on renewing the lease when it expired. Expect these to be picked up by Ferromex when that happens, atleast they will look better in FXE paint.

Only 4599 is slated to go to Mexico on long-term lease along with ~20 of the 4500 series SD70MACs (a la the BNSF SD70MACs). The rest have strict orders not to wander off of the system. All units are currently in Waycross except for 4600 (Huntington), 4597 (Cumberland), and 4594 (Huntington). It is true that they are having a lot of problems and are known to be fuel hogs, hence why CSX is sidelining them in Waycross.
Actually, I've heard the same thing from a couple of [usually] reliable sources to the tune of one 80MAC and 20 70MAC's going south of the border. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

SERAILS and a couple other Yahoo groups has been reporting all of the 80's and all of the 4500 70's except the ones they got from Conrail are headed south.
Which is interesting because I saw a ton of the 4500's on the C&O when I was up there last week.
I believe that in 1995 a comment like Chase's would get a lot of weird looks...
Yeah, I used to get bored seeing CR trailvans with sets of B36-7's and thought catching new BNSF C44's in the pumpkin scheme on BUEL was great. Now, the B36-7's are history and the C44 pumkins number (seemingly) in the millions. So glad I was able to enjoy Conrail from the late 1980's until it's demise and record alot of it on K64. Will upload some once I procure a decent slide scanner...
Amazing that SD70MAC's are unreliable and parked while SD40-2's still earn their keep...

You make it sound like ALL the SD70MAC's are heading south of the border. What happened to it being a select few? That would be CSX power hungry without those, they are good on coal up here.
EDIT: I take that back after reading Joe's information.

You can kiss former #700 ( now 4500 ) which is the Spirit Of Cumberland good bye then!
The writing was on the wall with the SD70MAC's for a while. CSX was never terribly pleased with them. Remember back when they first ordered AC power, they bought some SD70MAC's and some AC4400's, after a while, they ended up buying something on the order of 700 AC4400's and only about 120 more 70MAC's because at the time, GE couldnt commit to the number of AC4400's they wanted and needed AC units. I would expect that the 4700/4800's will be not long for this world once their 15 years is up in roughly December 2018.

Same reason NS went with over 1,000 Dash 9s instead of SD70s...

I just read in TRAINS that NS is ordering 100 SD70ACes...why? I like the ACe, but NS has long been AC-averse (until recently) and prefered GEs to EMDs. Could the new CAT buyout have anything to do with it?

That one is a mystery to me too... unlike the CSX order I mentioned, I doubt this time it is because GE could not commit to the order, they are not busy right now at all. Wonder if they will spring for the radial trucks unlike the oddball ones CSX got. But if you notice, it's 100 over 4 years, 25 per year. This looks like another NS "token" order from EMD. Kind of like how they have tricked out some SD70's over the past few years.
NS will receive 43 GE ES44AC units (NS 8024-8066) before the end of the year and will receive another 25 ES44AC units (NS 8067-8091) in early 2011.
NS has ordered 25 EMD SD70Ace units for delivery in 2011 to be numbered NS 1000-1024.
NS will also receive 25 additional locomotives per year from both GE and EMD in 2012-2014.
As for CSX70MAC's, it was reported on TO.com that only 18 of them were going to Mexico. I've read all types of reports citing all sorts of unnamed sources so I guess we will just have to wait another month or so and find out for sure.

You guys are making a big deal out of nothing, there is no mystery to it. NS signed an order for 100 SD70ACe's to be delivered over a 4 year period. They also signed an order with GE for 100 ES44AC's to be delivered over the same 4 year period. There is nothing "token" about it. NS will recieve 43 additional ES44AC's before the end of this year. GE has the capacity and ability to fill the order on short notice, EMD didn't, otherwise it likely would have been split between both builders.
The 20 CSX SD70ACe's were built with non-steerable HTS-C trucks trucks due to the fact that they were pre-production test units for both the SD70ACe model as well as the new HTS-C truck. These units are under a similar lease agreement as the late model SD70MAC's and aren't going anywhere anytime soon.
As for any CSX locomotives which might be leased out, this is nothing new, railroads have leased power to each other for ages now. Nothing will be disappearing forever, the locomotives will return home when the lease expires.
