I know that photo is not one of my bests at all. I want to know what you might want to see from me in future, if anything? My major publishing place is a local railway picture gallery and all my pictures there can be found at http://vaunut.org/kuvind.php?&kuvaaja=29 There is some special themes, don't look too seriously at all of them. And an other version of the rejected picture is in there...

I have always wondered if there is a cropping tutorial for railpictures.net somewhere?

Please don't take too personally that very brave text in first post

I got through a page and a half of replies and I only saw a few comments which might help this fellow understand why his shot wasrejected. first of all, I think the shot is slightly above average as is. But there are some issues I see with it --

1.) Cropping -- There's too much room on all four sides of the shot. There has to be a difference between empty space creating an atmosphere and empty space just being space that is empty. Cropping it down could help. However, if I had been taking this shot, I would have let the train get more toward the pole nearest to the left on the other side of the tracks. That would have gotten the front of the train away from the pole in the foreground.

Cropping it all four sides would also get more of the sky out of the shot. The sky is washed out here. The only bad thing I see about cropping the shot on all four sides is tht you could lose all or part of the road. With all of that said, I'm not sure this shot will be RP quality. The train does not look sharp. It's possible that turning it black and white will help, but I'm not sure.

Cloudy day shots do get in the database here. But not every cloudy day shot deserves to be here and frankly, that's just the way it is.

He didn't exactly come on looking for help, but rather to complain and whine. That is probably why people did not help him. He did, however, tone down and ask for help later, and because of that, you have answered helpfully. Perhaps that should be a lesson to those who want to complain and whine. They get little help. When asking nicely, they get help.

I like the shot compostion, mood, fog, location, etc.

If I were a screener, I'd accept it.

But, I'm not a screener and it ain't my website, so my opinion and $0.89 will get you a cup of coffee at Wawa.

Unlike FOX news: "You upload. They decide."

...and that's the bottom line. If venting makes you feel better - go for it!

Fog is actually a low-altitude cloud.
