Not sure if this has been discussed before, but I'll bring it up anyway. Who here uses Flickr? I've been using it for about two years now and I love it. Such an awesome site to display work and there's no shortage of awesome railroad related photostreams.

I go by WMHeilman on there, and here's the link to my page: http://www.flickr.com/photos/wyatt_heilman/

Railpictures gets my best, flickr gets the ones I think should be accepted and the ones I forgot to delete before I hit my 200 photo limit.

I spend a ton of time looking at flickr. Always related to certain groups, usually film.

For every 10 photos there, 9 of them suck, but that's ok. You never know what you're going to find. Kind of like a garage sale.

I use flickr mostly for holding non-RP shots for which I want to send out a link, which usually means for a Yahoo group. And the occasional non-RR shot, of which there may be only one right now. So my "decent shots" and "weaker shots" sets are well populated; my "better shots," much less so.

I love me some Flickr for both my railfanning and other assorted photography. Working on an image right now that I can't wait to load to Flickr. Also, most of the bites I get from folks wanting to buy shots comes from Flickr. For my railfanning shots, I tend to put everything up there. Some of the stuff then finds it's way here.

Love flickr. Its nice having a group of contacts who will look at your recent stuff and leave comments and whatnot. Of course we also have competitions.

I personally have had a problem with those trying to tell us to turn railroad photography into an "art form." It's fine for them to do so, I welcome it in fact, but what I do have a problem with is that the practitioners of the more "arty" shots, I have found, tend to look down their nose's at others who are shooting more "mundane" shots.
Railroad photography is what you make of it, but one way is not "better" than another, IMHO. Unless you have a pole right thought the nose of the engine! -SG

I like Flickr, but never got into for the purpose of sharing railroad images. It's a great place to look at landscape scenes, portraits, etc. and it's crisp detail makes viewing enjoyable, but I've just never really found myself interested in placing any of my railroad photos on there.

I do, however, enjoy seeing the images of others on there.

I also use it for a mix of stuff including non-railroad shots. Still deciding about a paid account.

I use it as a method of showing shots to people who might not go to RP. The link is in my sig. You'll find stuff on there thats also on RP as well as a wealth of other shots.

Try some of these groups for a more off the wall approach to rail photography

I like Flickr because the people on there are not as artistically tunnel blind as those on the railroad only Sites.

Also, most of the major contributors on RP have at least some presence on Flickr - course you need to know who they are to find them since many don't use a screen name there.

It is also a great place to meet people from around the world that share in the same interests as you.

My pro account is about to expire, so if anyone wants to buy me another year, you'll get to see some non-railroad masterpieces such as which, for some reason, is my most viewed shot there --

Barefoot in the park

It's quite obvious why this is your most viewed shot there, Joe. Obviously the majority of Flickr users have foot fetishes.
