Talking Wouldn't it be Cool...

I had forgotten to drink decaf the other night and thus couldn't sleep. My mind got to wondering, and thought "wouldn't it be cool if UP put a big US flag decal on a SD90, if only to compare it to one of the new SD70ACe's." Here are some others i came up with:

-If CP bought EMD's again
-If CN didn't buy WC, and spoil our flared fun
-If GE or EMD made more than 1 type of locomotive (OK, i know they have AC and DC, but they often look too similar to discern)
-If Conrail was never split up

I'd be curious to see what others can come up with.

My ideas......

-If CSX split it's share of Conrail into it's own division, conrail is northern division, CSX south...
-NS did the same...
-UP made a hotel, right in the center of Tehachapi.
-BNSF merged into CN, and called it CNSF
-Amtrak got EMD's (yeah right!)
-Railfan's were free again.
-Rentable D-SLR's in railfanning hotspots like Tehachapi and Horseshoe curve, then you can get the pics on a CD... (Never gonna happen.......)
-I had better idea's

Wouldn't it be cool if:

- Milwaukee Road's electrification was never abandoned and high-speed rail travel was available from Chicago to the West Coast
- PRR and NYC never merged leaving PRR and UP as the two largest (and oldest) Class Is in the US
- PRR leaves four tracks around Horseshoe Curve and the majority of its Middle Division
- The O&W was merged into the Lehigh Valley and Erie providing commuter/tourist service from NY into the Catskills on one of the most scenic lines in the East
- The CNJ was never abandoned providing NJT a route from Hoboken to Bethlehem, PA plus smaller commuter lines
- CR never scrapped the rails on the Lackawanna Cutoff which is restored for freight and passenger service from NJ to PA
- Amtrak never happened and Class Is had to keep providing passenger service
- If it was possible to build new rail lines as easy as it was in the early 1900s

It would be interesting, but I don't think it would mean anything good for the rail industry. Competition would decrease, and they would have more of a monopoly then BNSF already does, particularly in agricultural shipping.

Wouldn't it be cool if:

No tracks were ever ripped up, and all original lines were still active, including all abandoned industry spurs.

Double Amen! I was going to put that one but didn't, obviously.

It would be cool if the Pittsburgh steel lines were thriving now, with tons of traffic!

... if Southern tuxedos still rode the rails LHF.

... that whole CSX thing never came about.

... and also the rio Grande and SP existed outside the grip of Uncle Pete.

... CSX lost the "new" Carolina Southern GP38s and they never got to Mullins. (Which, this being CSX, could have happened.)

- Mike B. stopped trolling
- A few MILW Hudsons and Atlantics were preserved (and running!), along with many of the other streamlined locos of that era

Ween, Jim, do you have anything you want back so Mike B can argue and disagree?

Better luck of the entire DMIR fleet being put back into service, all their Yellowstones to be restored, and the return of their yellow caboose.

ALL EBT STEAM WAS RUNNING
PRR still exsisted
Steam still ruled the rails

If all railfans could get along
If Southern #4501 ran mainline excursions
If class ones would let museums run on their line for excursions
If santa fe was still its own RR
If all crews was railfan friendly
If they sold cab rides on CSX and NS
If everyone would quit complaing about RJ Cormans 2-10-2QJ

- trackside vegetation receded back to 1950's magnitudes

- Jim Thias got rid of that horrible avatar, now that his joke has been well and extensively made

Yeah, because your shaded letter G is so cool.

I WAS going to change it soon, but now that you said that, I think I'll keep it for a while.

The avatar was quite horrible from the day Jim added it. Unfortunately, I'm sure he will keep it for another month now that I say this.

Here's my perfect railfanning world:

The Bethlehem Branch was never severed and through trains still used it from Philly to Allentown and Bethlehem.
Unlimited brush cutting opportunities at overgrown spots along the tracks (along with pole removing).
Position lights were still used on all of the ex-PRR lines.
CN never bought IC, WC, GTW, DMIR, BLE, etc.
UP cut up their Heritage units and replaced them with SD40-2's (Tunnelmotors in SP's and DRGW's case) in the appropriate paint schemes.
BNSF was never formed.
