Two shots, same event, same location, same photographer, one year apart

Interesting to compare the choices the same photographer made. I suppose one could make this comparison with any of hundreds or thousands of pairs of shots. Something about the way today's upload struck a familiar note, subsequently confirmed, in a spot I have not otherwise seen, compelled me to post.

Good to see they are accepting shots with shadows on the locomotive. I think I have a few I could submit.

That's the first thing I noticed too!

I wish they'd run that with a pair of F40's. SD40-2's are cool, but they don't look right paired with that F40.

I'm certainly not complaining as this was one of my shadowed accepted shots a few years ago...

I don't find shadows as annoying as most people do.

And Trevor's comment made me laugh:

"Posted by Travis Dewitz on February 15, 2009
Great looking shot, Jim. Nice shadow."

It's interesting that the choice was made to go back to the same spot and deal with people in the shot...

All rules are suspended when it comes to the Santa train, everyone knows that.

Apparently.

Sorry to be a grinch but I do not care for either one.

Shadows, too far way, foreground clutter and big butts.

It's apparently anything Santa-related. Like Santa Fe F units.

CSX should be ashamed of themselves for running that train before Thanksgiving. One holiday at a time, please!

I try to vary the same train, same location as much as I can.

I wish they would have never given up their F- units.

I like the first photo. Quite frankly I'm not sure how or why the second shot was accepted.

Not anymore, I've got 11 rejects to prove it.

It's been that way for 70 years, always the first Saturday before Thanksgiving.

70 years? That's even more shameful!

I mean they start playing Christmas music in October, so they might as well run a Santa train a month before Christmas.

My 8 year old complained about that today while at a restaurant.

He exclaimed that it was "stupid" to be playing Christmas music before Thanksgiving, and that "they" should have one holiday at a time.

I was astounded that he even cared, let alone had an opinion.

I guess others notice when Walmart starts pushing the holiday and Christmas crap before the Labor Day weekend.

How come no railroads have a Festivus train with a Festivus pole?

Because railroads are donating to The Human Fund instead...

Columbia has a Festivus celebration and, frankly, I can't help but think how 1998 it is.

Your 8 year old should lead a crusade of today's youth to push these premature Christmas celebrations back to starting the day after Thanksgiving. Sounds like he has a good head on his shoulders already!

I put lights up on my gf's house last weekend, but I refuse to turn them on until Friday (and she agrees). Meanwhile, three neighbors surrounding her house are already pimpin' their lights. I will....not....break.....

I'll bet it took hours and hours to get all of those little lights perfectly straight and level....did you use a laser level??
