Default Gallery: Published Material

Before I get accused of this being a gallery for a select few to show off to others that they've had their material published in magazines, brochures, etc. that is not simple not it's purpose. I am, however, looking to see how many RP contributors branch out and submit material to other railroad photography oriented organizations such as Trains, Railpace, Railroads Illustrated, and how has RP played a role in your accepted material eslewhere.

This is my favorite, this was face of the KATO N Scale run of SD45's and was published in Model Railroader, among others, with the whole back page:

I personally have had a problem with those trying to tell us to turn railroad photography into an "art form." It's fine for them to do so, I welcome it in fact, but what I do have a problem with is that the practitioners of the more "arty" shots, I have found, tend to look down their nose's at others who are shooting more "mundane" shots.
Railroad photography is what you make of it, but one way is not "better" than another, IMHO. Unless you have a pole right thought the nose of the engine! -SG

I did a few in Railpace, years ago. I lost interest, didn't seem to be worth the effort to have a shot 2"x3" appear. I didn't think I was likely to score a bigger slot, so I lost interest.

Here's one that appeared there, and as I recall I was disappointed that it was so tiny, I didn't think it did justice to the shot, which is a favorite of mind despite the cut-off left side, I just like the colors.

Kudos to all who have more stick-to-it-iveness than I. And, of course, whose shots are of higher quality, deserving of wider exposure.

I've only had a shot of mine published in a local brochure... Not really worth mentioning. I don't have any magazine worthy material on RP, probably due to my impatience for creativity while shooting..

Pretty sure it was this one..

I've never submitted anything to a magazine. Here's a few I've had in brochures, guides, etc.

Have you gotten paid yet Joe?

Not these exact photos, but similar angles from the same day were in the Jan 2009 R&R.

A few more will be in books in the future (1 soon, 1 in the works). Also had an author contact me to use some in an article for R&R that he was writing, but they decided not to publish it. I just don't care to submit to magazines. The failure on RP is bad enough

Here's the original from the camera attached, and just resized for posting. I edited with IRfanview (the only editor I had in 2008 ). If I remember correctly, I adjusted the gamma, and saturation, resized and sharpened. I've seen before and after edits far worse. Troy, feel free to tell me where the shadow / highlight tool on IRfanview is..

You have to install the expansion pack.

No offense, it reminded me of some of my early attempts at post processing.

That's a snowhood, man! It allows me to get shots like these without getting any snow on the lens...

And yes, Jim... while I may not have known that it was a "snow hood" I had figured out that it was some sort of lens protection.

Of course. I was just playing along.

Guess how much I paid for it. Rather, guess WHAT exactly it is.

A musket?

Seven quid, two bits, and a bottle of moonshine?

Honestly, I have no idea.

It's a 70-200/2.8 with some sort of wacky lens hood.
