Default D9-40CW "Catfish"

OK, all you NS shooters...

I want to see your most popular NS Dash 9 "Catfish" photo from your collection. In my collection, most of my Dash 9's have the lowest overall views, which leads me to believe they must not be very interesting shots.

So post yours, and let's see what makes people want to click on such a ubiquitous locomotive!

Here's mine:

Don't have any to add, but I think its interesting, that for many NS fans it was a big deal when these were purchased, since NS was a long time holdout on the widenose models. I thought it was the coolsest thing since sliced bread to see the thoroughbred on a wide nose when they first came out. Now, many years later, its no big deal.

Here is mine, probably popular only because of the caption and trailing units, otherwise, it would be like all my other catfish shots, up for over a year, still struggling to break 150 views.

Well, I am not an NS shooter; although they do visit occasionally.

Added 1-14-05 and 350 views. Is there something about BNSF SD9s and the catfish?

Also how are you able to link your photos with the words "Click here" in your signature area. I've tried the photo link-maker and it didn't seem to work. I'm probably doing something wrong, any advice?

Took some going down the list pretty far.

Around here, this is all you see. A month or so ago I went to Newport for the afternoon and every train had them. Read: Boring!! NS has over 1000 of them.

2nd most:

3rd most:

I'm trying to be as creative as possible but it gets tough. For me that means get the train on a curve, down-on, anything but a straight 3/4.

My most popular -9 is a cab shot. But here is the most popular exterior view.

Only reason it got any views is because it somehow made screeners choice.

I find this 'bashing' of GE only in the people on the East coast. It is primarily because NS like BNSF ordered the Dash-9 for Life. Many railfans on the East coast are just sick and tired of seeing a over populated Dash-9 fleet. I find that BNSF railfans also get sick and tired of seeing the same old stuff. But the cool part about the BNSF is that they also run a variety of forigen power in consist like old Santa Fe and CN. You dont see this often on the Northfolk Southern compared to the BNSF. Either way its alot of Dash-9.

Now on the other had us West coast people, like my self are getting burnt out of seeing EMD SD70M by Union Pacific.

So i find that it is exactly the opposites between East and West coast. The West coast wants to see more of the GE power and the East coast wants to see more of the EMD power. This is because each of us dont get to see it as much.

I love GE, those locomotives have actual sound and character. They always smoke it up, which just makes it more fun to see. EMD on the other hand is a low-key, no show, no go locomotive.

I always get a kick when railfans complain about how un reliable GE is, to me, i dont care. Why because its not my problem, i dont own the RR, i just watch it!

He is a picture of what i like to see on the West coast.

I think one of the main reasons folks bash GE is because one can loose count while railfanning at the number of GE's that have caught fire and have visable fire damage behind the cab. Even the newer Dash 9's have fire damage. It is the RR's problem, but I think there is some type of quality issue with the Dash 9, as the fire is supposed to stay inside the cylinders and inside the carbody. And yes, NS owns wayyyyyyyy too many of em.

The scenery and Conrail B23-7's on their way to be scrapped (as I would find out later) boost up the views on this one.

I consider an NS Dash 9 to be the worst (in terms of boring) power you can see, followed closely by CSX C40-8W's and UP SD70M's (especially the ones with no flags).

This is my most popular shot of a dash 9. I was in Altoona a couple of days ago and that was all there was .
