Default WC engines

Does anyone know a good place to catch a WC unit still in WC paint. I'm limited right now to IL, southern WI, western IN, eastern half of IA, and eastern MO. Any help would be appreciated.

Your best bet would be somewhere in the Chicago area. I believe there are one or two stored at CN's Hazel Crest shop in Homewood, IL. Also, there are a few GP40s that frequently run on transfer runs to various yards in the Chicago area. Hopefully someone else from the area can fill you in with more information.

Thanks for the info. I'm trying to catch one before they are all gone.

Occasionally we get a Geep down here in Champaign. There's usually a some around Chicago. Try asking at the Yahoo! Illini Rail group. It's a huge group, and someone there should know the answer. If you need to know anything about railroading in the Chicago area or in Illinois, that's the place to ask.

Thanks, I'm already apart of Illinirail group. I'll have to ask sometime soon. Right now I'm stuck in southern Illinois, so I don't see any trips to Chicago for at least a couple weeks.

Speaking of WC units, does anyone know if the Effingham switcher is still a WC unit or two?

Well, today was my lucky day. I went down to Centralia today to catch a few trains and finally found a WC unit in WC paint, WC 6006 http://rrpicturearchives.net/showPic...spx?id=1544372

Not really sure if there are any left outside of switching or yard jobs. But about 2 or 3 years ago I would see a few of them running through Lake County, Illinois. However recently that line has been full of CN and BNSF. I would very much like to catch some more as well. If you find anyplace, please let me know.
