Default Help please

I submitted a dozen photos and managed to have a few accepted. However, of those submitted, one or two I thought were especially interesting were rejected. I've accepted the decissions, but would appreciate input on what I can do to improve the following shots (especially the first one of UP 844 taken from the conductor's side of the cab):

Reason: Bad Cropping

Reason: Bad Angle

Reason: Poor lighting

Reason: Front Coupled

I can pretty much live with the last three duds, but the first I thought came out pretty good - even after straightening the horizon and cropping-out the water bottle sitting on the conductor sill. Any comments/suggestions are much appreciated.

Since the forum only allows for 4-images in a post (including smilies!), here's #5:

Reason: Bad Lighting (over-exposed)

I think this one could be tweaked, but unsure how to deal with the light coming through the engineer's window (and the fireman's white t-shirt).

Hi Marc the first photo is great I feel. Why not try cropping out the highway? I know it would crop some of the rails, but the highway is an eyesore in a otherwise great shot.

Also I don't understand why the last one was rejected just cause of being front coupled. Have you appealed that one?

Thanks for the input - it never occured to me that the highway might have been the culprit. Here's the fix (I'll resubmit and cross my fingers):

As for the snow plow, I'm not sure what to say for the appeal, but will give it a shot. Thanks again for the assistance.

Nice job, Marc!

I submitted my first two photos here a few days ago, and both were rejected due to "Bad Motive." That means, "Oh Hell, we really don't like these!" Glad to see you got your cabview shot posted. It's a nice shot.

Thanks, Bret. Nice to see you hangin' around here - we need to see your face more often in beta.

I'm going to try and get up to Cheyenne again in September (sooner, if things work out). Armed with tips given to me here, I'm hoping my future submitions will be composed a bit better. I might even try a trip to Cumberland for some CSX power.

Hey, Marc, I finally got one.

Now if I can just unload this camera and get a Rebel XT, I'll be good to go...
