Arrow Need Advice!

I wasn't too sure about this one as I thought it would get canned for being too dark.

Then again its Artsy Fartsy and I thought it would sail through.

Nope.

BAD MOTIVE:

http://www.railpictures.net/viewreject.php?id=141364

Don't quite get it? I figure I could try to lighten it up and bring out the lettering on the side of the engine more, but I don't want to ruin the "mood" of the shot.

I could always appeal, but I'm waiting for some comments first.

Still, I don't get bad motive? That should be for telephone poles and spikes. :P

Thanks!!!

David

Too much dark loco on the left that conveys no information. If it didn't go from top to bottom, but you still saw the silouette against the sky, it would be one think, but it just lacks something. I think the pic would look much better if cropped to make a vertical image with the conductor about 2/3 or 3/4 the way over to the right in the image (keep left hand side, discard dark engine).

I like the rails in the image, but that is not saying that it would still get accepted, but cropped, it is artistically nice.

Thanks for the help..

I tried it and it got rejected again for the same reason!!!!

http://www.railpictures.net/viewreject.php?id=141396

And on appeal too!

I don't get it. Usually I don't get upset over rejections, but this one has me wondering what the heck is going on. No its not a UP -9 wedgie but I thought artistic shots were encouraged?

Maybe I'll crop a little off the top and re-submit.

try to go to again to this spot and try to catch the pic again and again for many locos there also try to make the pix more light as possible as you can then try to choose the best of them then upload it to the site and if it was rejected again tell us again and we will discuss wat we can do for it
(notice:try to make the best angel while catching the pix as maybe rejected for bad angel )

It is too dark, yet the sky is overexposed and no detail. The best time to do this shot would be toward sunset when you can get some sky detail too. Of course, you are gonna have to be very lucky to get a train just when the light is right.

That is why we all keep trying. Good luck.

too dark, and you cant really see the outline of the engine, so its kinda like a big black thing that is hard to identify

If you say its too dark, you don't know the point of the picture or anything about abstract photography.

Thats why its a silhouette shot. Its dark.

BTW, about 2 minutes after my shot was rejected, this one was accepted:

http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=111083

So, I still don't get it. Darkness is not the problem.

As for the sky, yeah its "blank" - I'm not the type to wish for clouds but the reason its washed out is because it was hazy.

Anyway, this is the final version - I'm just going to let it go now.

Dave, I had the same shot rejected, too! Thought it might make it, but no luck.

Dusk shots are REALLY subjective, and it's really up to the screener. May not be right, but like I've heard before, it's their site!

Don't get too upset when artsy doesn't make it here, very few do.
I like the second version best, (vertical cropping, dark)
Some detail in the sky may have helped on this one. At any rate keep for your personal collection, your freinds and family will love it.

When I get rejected ones I don't let it bother me, I tell myself that I will come up with a better one next time. I know sometimes you see other excepted photos that are like your rejected ones, but what you can do is don't keep sending the same photo the same day. It is not the same screener everyday 24/7. Work on it and try it some other day of the week then see if it is excepted. I have to agree with some that the photo was a little dark and hard to tell what road name it was. But keep trying and Good Luck!!
