Upload Limit
I've had a few year hiatus from the site. When did the upload limit go from 10 to 1?

New members who joined after May 2012 or so were cut to 2. Older members from that point forward were reduced if they had an excessive amount of rejections, and appeals.

Yeah, they changed it a long time ago, most people who were here before (like me) who had 10 uploads got knocked down to 2 as well.
Sometimes they make exceptions, and give you more than 2. But i'm not sure how often they do that.

I believe that most of the long-timers still have 10 uploads. Elite Members who have a record of meeting site standards have unlimited uploads. I can recall days when some such members uploaded 50 or more shots. The key point is that such instances are relatively rare. Most Elites are not abusing their privileges.
The RP Staff initially imposed the limits on contributors who had poor success rates meeting standards, especially those that were frequently uploading to the old limit of 10. As time went on, the limits were expanded to include all new members. The obvious reason is screener workload. As Chris Kilroy has stated a number of times here on the forums, the vast majority of RP uploads are screened by just two people. If every contributor were allowed to upload 5 or 10 each day, the existing staff just would not be able to handle it.

Personally I'd rather have more upload slots but have to wait longer for screening. Usually if I sit down to upload stuff there's no difference between uploading 2 or 5-10, but making time to do 2 each day is more time consuming. Just my two cents. It would also be more helpful for correcting a rejection and resubmitting.

I have 5...
When I was naughty they dropped me down to 1 for a while. I had 10 when I first started too.

I personally have had a problem with those trying to tell us to turn railroad photography into an "art form." It's fine for them to do so, I welcome it in fact, but what I do have a problem with is that the practitioners of the more "arty" shots, I have found, tend to look down their nose's at others who are shooting more "mundane" shots.
Railroad photography is what you make of it, but one way is not "better" than another, IMHO. Unless you have a pole right thought the nose of the engine! -SG
