$70, best price I have ever seen for LR! Amazon has it for 99 right now. Tempting ...

Lightroom 4 is in beta testing, expiration 3/31/2012:

I currently work with PSE7. Would it be worth my while to purchase LR3? Those who have worked with both, which is better? Does one offer something the other does not? Or, am I fine just sticking with PSE7?

I've used PSE 6, Capture NX2, LR 3, and CS5, though I'm no expert in any of them.

I do 99% of my work in LR now. I'll occasionally export something to CS5, do what I need to do, then export back to LR.

I think NX2 does a better job with the Nikon NEF files than Adobe RAW, but the NX2 interface is so much less user-friendly than LR it's hardly worth it anymore.

The cataloging in LR takes a little getting used to, but I love being able to sort quickly through 700 soccer images, flag the best 30 or so, apply the same sharpening, etc. to all 30 at once, go back and tweak and crop a little, and upload to SmugMug, in less than an hour. This process used to take me 3 or 4 hours with PSE.

I love LR.

FWIW,

Mike

Just to echo what Mike said, if you are looking for a program to catalog, sort and organize your photos than Lightroom is a great purchase. Since I use SmugMug to host my website, the LR plug-in is an invaluable resource for quick editing and uploading.

LR is also a huge help when preparing slideshows or multimedia presentations. Rather than opening up each shot individually in PS, you can do basic adjustments, rotate and crop images, and sharpen in batch saving time to put everything together.

I have PSE9 and LR3, and now find myself using LR3 95% of the time. There are a few things PSE9 does better, but by and large I prefer LR. LR3 won't give you a better final product, I just like how it works much better. YMMV.

From what I am hearing I think I will get it. At that price it really is not much loss if I end up not liking it but it sounds like that probably won't be the case. Thanks everyone for your input.

Gosh Darn It! Just bought it a week ago. I used the student discount so I only took a $10 loss. It just would have been nice to get it on sale...

What it will bring to the table for me is get like shots all WB the same for shows a weak point for me. The faster work flow wont hurt as PS one at the time is SLOW!
