Default Shortcut Problem

90% 0f my image shortcuts suddenly don't work (Windows 8.1). A "Problem with shortcut" message pops up. All are on the same external drive. New ones that work can be created, but I'd still like to know what happened. Any thoughts?

Recent update? Drive letter change?

Can you go into properties on the broken shortcut and see what the target is (and if that is truly correct)?

Windows 8.1 is an absolutely satanic OPSYS.

Maybe so, but I absolutely love the photo editor! Especially the retouch button which can zap many things other than dust spots- litter, graffiti, even gawkers and some watermarks.

Microsoft offered me a free upgrade to Windows 10- it was such a nightmare that I soon removed it!

I was just wondering if CCleaner that I recently tried might have wiped out the shortcuts. I think I will stick with additional copies of images rather than shortcuts. Thanks for the reply!

Yes, it will. Many of the 'cleaner' programs deem shortcut pointers to files as unnecessary and remove it.

Aha! CCleaner also removed all my website sign-ins. Too aggressive for my taste!
