Smile Amtrak Texas Eagle advice

Hi Everyone,

I am new here, and was wanting to ask questions about the Texas Eagle. I will be traveling on the Eagle on July 14. What kind of service should I expect on the trip from STL-CHI

The northbound usually runs late, anywhere from an hour to 2-3 hours. Don't know where it gets delayed, but my guess is before St. Louis. The other trains on the corridor are generally on time, though.

My experience with the Eagle was supposed to take me from Ft. Worth to San Antonio to connect with the Sunset Limited. Instead, I got a 4 hour ride in a minivan taxi to Houston, where I napped in the cab for two hours waiting for the station to open...

What is the usual Consist? I have been told that it can be 7-8 cars. The only other long distance train I have been on is the Empire Builder and I had 11 cars on that one. I can't remember how many cars were on the Sunset Limited, but I remember when it went through Ocean Springs, MS where I used to live every other day. I wish they would re-start that route.

I rode the Texas Eagle from STL to CHI on the first leg of a trip to Washington, DC last fall. The consist we had was as follows: P42DC #76, Transition sleeper, Superliner Sleeper, Superliner Diner, Superliner Lounge, and three Superliner coaches. We left STL only 45 minutes behind schedule, and arrived in CHI only 30 minutes late. Ride was very enjoyable!! On the return trip the consist was similar, only with P42DC #71 providing the motive power.
