Default The most scenic area in Illinois/Missouri for photographing trains?

I live in the St. Louis area and would love to find a good spot to photograph trains that had a decent scenic background.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

As far as backgrounds go you're limited only by your imagination.
I'd head towards the bridges going across the Miss. if you want trees, water, and bridge structure
I like the scenic details that are in yard shots.
just get out and explore.Cruise around and follow some tracks. Shoot whatever you have in your minds eye.

Down near the Shawnee National Forest area on the old MoPac is very scenic. Never photographed the line, but my family vacations in that area semi-regularly. The area is south of St. Louis, but I'm not sure how far.

I'm a fan of several places along the BNSF Transcon in NC Missouri. The Marceline, Bucklin and Ethel areas are my particular favorites. This is a good place to explore since there are plenty of trains to exploit the various photo angles you come across, so you rarely have to wait too long.
