Default Kanawa River Terminal

Does anyone know anything about the Kanawa River Terminal? This is a small operation in Kenova, WV, but I have failed to find any information about it in any railroad publications and their roster is not included in Jim Kerr's bible.

Any thoughts?

Nothing small about KRT. KRT is owned and operated by Electric Fuels Corporation, an operating company of Florida Progress Corporation and sister company to Florida Power. It is basically a rail to barge transloading facility with an annual capacity of 9 million tons, most of which originates on CSXs Logan and Coal River Subdivisions although a portion is sourced from NS off the famed Pokey. Ceredo Synfuel, LLC, a division of Progress Energy also operates a synfuel facility on site. Progress Energy and Florida Progress are basically the same company (Progress Energy was formed from the 2002 merger of Carolina Power & Light and Florida Progress) but things are reported under different companies to maintain the tax credits awarded for synfuel production. KRT is built on the same site as the former Traux-Traer facility that functioned as a barge loadout for TTs Raccoon Mine located up on Cabin Creek during C&O days. Power for moving hoppers through the rotary dumper and over to the CSX yard (actually KRT leases the yard from CSX) is provided by former CN GP40-2L locos and a dogs breakfast of older GP9s and cat-powered Alco S2 switchers that may now be stored.

KRT gets about 2-3 unit trains of loaded tubs from CSX each day.

CN GP40-2L still in CN paint.

Repainted into KRT colors.
